Accessibility statement
Most of the people this site is for are over 65, and a good share read it on a phone, with larger text, or with a screen reader. It is built for that, and I want to hear about anything that gets in the way.
What I aim for
The site is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice points to in its guidance on web accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
How it is built
- Every page works with a keyboard alone: a visible focus outline, a skip link to the content, and menus, forms and the interactive checks that can be operated without a mouse.
- Headings, landmarks, tables and form fields are labeled so screen readers announce them properly; images that carry information have text alternatives, and decorative artwork is hidden from assistive technology.
- Text and background colors meet the AA contrast ratios, and nothing depends on color alone.
- Text sizes follow your browser or phone setting, so zooming or larger system text enlarges the page without breaking it; the layout works at 200% zoom and on a 375-pixel-wide phone.
- Tables that would not fit a phone screen are presented as cards instead of sideways scrolling.
- Animations are minimal and switch off when your device asks for reduced motion.
- The interactive tools (the plan finder, the enrollment check, the coverage checks) are optional: everything they conclude can also be reached by calling or writing.
How it is checked
Every change to the site is run through an automated accessibility check (axe-core) on every page, at desktop width and at phone width, alongside the other build checks, before it is published. Automated checks do not catch everything, which is why the next section matters.
Known limits
- The booking calendar is provided by Calendly and opens on their site; if it does not work for you, use the contact form or call and I will book the time for you.
- Some linked documents from carriers, Medicare and New York State are PDFs on their sites, and their accessibility is theirs.
Tell me
If any part of this site is hard to use, or you would prefer the information in another form (large print, a phone call, a printed copy), contact me: (518) 902-8822, ibrahimmeteafyon@gmail.com, or the contact form. Say which page and what happened, and I will fix it or give you the information another way, usually within two business days.
