What changed in Medicare Advantage for 2027

Every county I serve, compared plan by plan in Medicare's own files: how many plans are new, how many are no longer sold, and which carriers left. Plan names and types only; premiums and benefits are in your Annual Notice of Change.

In short

For 2027, Albany County has 12 new and 15 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans; Saratoga County has 14 new and 15 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans; Schenectady County has 12 new and 15 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans; Rensselaer County has 12 new and 14 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans; Warren County has 11 new and 12 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans; Washington County has 11 new and 12 discontinued Medicare Advantage plans, according to the CMS landscape files compared plan by plan with 2026. If your plan is leaving, your Annual Notice of Change says what happens next; you can switch between October 15 and December 7.

From the CMS Medicare Advantage and Part D landscape file, contract year 2027, read October 1, 2026, compared plan by plan with the 2026 file using Medicare's plan ID. Plans are filed by county, so a plan can leave one county and stay in the next.

If your plan is leaving

Your Annual Notice of Change says whether the carrier is moving you to another of its plans or whether your plan is ending; if it's ending, you get a Special Enrollment Period to choose new coverage. What to do when your plan is discontinued covers the options, including Original Medicare with Medigap, which in New York you can apply for in any month.

If your plan is staying

It can still change its network, drug list, premium and extras for 2027. Those changes are in your Annual Notice of Change and on medicare.gov/plan-compare. You can switch between October 15 and December 7 for coverage starting January 1.
