Social Security offices in the Capital Region
Four offices serve Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties. Addresses, hours and phone numbers below are as Social Security listed them on September 16, 2026, with what each office can and can't do for you. If you're deciding when to file, do that before you book: the office processes your choice, it doesn't advise on it.
The Capital Region has four Social Security field offices, all open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Albany (11A Clinton Avenue, Room 430, 1-866-253-9183), Schenectady (One Broadway Center, 8th floor, 1-866-964-1296), Troy (120 Hoosick Street, Suite 12A-1, 1-866-770-2662) and Glens Falls (67 Warren Street, Suite 1, 1-877-405-4875). There is no office in Saratoga Springs or Clifton Park; Social Security's locator sends Clifton Park to Schenectady and Saratoga Springs to Glens Falls or Schenectady. There is no such thing as a local Medicare office: Medicare enrollment is done through Social Security, plan questions through 1-800-MEDICARE, and free counseling through HIICAP. Most applications can be done at ssa.gov without a visit.

What an office visit is for, and what it isn't
- Needs the office (or a phone appointment): showing identity or immigration documents that must be seen, a first Social Security card for a non-citizen, name changes with original documents, and applications the website won't accept.
- Doesn't: retirement, spousal, survivor and Medicare applications (ssa.gov), card replacements, address and direct-deposit changes, benefit letters, earnings-record checks (my Social Security), Extra Help applications (ssa.gov/extrahelp), IRMAA appeals (form SSA-44 by mail or fax).
- Never: advice on which month to claim, or which Medicare plan to pick. Social Security staff process your choice; the claiming decision is yours, and it's permanent.
The Medicare part
People search for a "Medicare office" because they've been told to sign up for Medicare. The sign-up is a Social Security transaction: at 65, or when employer coverage ends later, you enroll in Parts A and B through any of the offices above or at ssa.gov. Everything after that, choosing between Medicare Advantage and Medigap, picking a Part D plan, and applying for the Medicare Savings Program or Extra Help, is done elsewhere: with a licensed agent, through HIICAP, or on your own at Medicare.gov. Before you book: the claiming decision
Claiming at 62 pays roughly 70% of your full benefit for life; 67 pays 100%; 70 pays about 124%. The earnings test ($24,480 in 2026 if you're still working), spousal and survivor rules, taxes and Medicare timing all move the answer. Is there a Social Security office in Saratoga Springs or Clifton Park?
No. Social Security's office locator lists no office in Saratoga County. For Clifton Park, Halfmoon and Malta the closest is Schenectady (One Broadway Center, about 9 miles); for Saratoga Springs, Wilton and Ballston Spa it's Glens Falls (67 Warren Street, about 17 miles) or Schenectady (about 20 miles). Nearly everything can be done online or by phone instead.
Where is the Medicare office near me?
There isn't one; Medicare has no walk-in offices. Enrolling in Part A and B, Part B special enrollment and Extra Help go through Social Security (any office above, or 1-800-772-1213). Questions about a claim or a plan go to 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). Free, unbiased plan counseling is HIICAP, through each county's Office for the Aging (1-800-701-0501). Do I need an appointment?
Social Security asks visitors to make appointments for most services; walk-ins are seen as capacity allows. Call the office number or 1-800-772-1213, or use your my Social Security account. Replacement cards, address changes, direct deposit and benefit letters need no visit at all.
