Counts from the CMS Medicare Advantage and Part D landscape file, contract year 2027, read October 27, 2026; employer-only plans are left out. "Special needs" counts the D-SNP, C-SNP and I-SNP plans, which only people who qualify can join, and they are also counted under their HMO, HMO-POS or PPO type. Plans are filed by county, so neighboring counties can differ.
Key dates for 2027
- October 15 – December 7: Annual Enrollment. Join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan; the change takes effect January 1.
- January 1: 2027 plans, premiums and drug lists take effect.
- January 1 – March 31: Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. If you're in an Advantage plan, you can make one change: to another Advantage plan, or back to Original Medicare with a Part D plan.
- Any month, in New York: you can apply for a Medigap policy without health questions. Leaving an Advantage plan for it still needs an enrollment period.
Not sure which window applies to you? Can I change my plan now? answers it in a few questions.
Plans these tables don't show
An Advantage plan is one route. The other is Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy and a stand-alone Part D drug plan (all 9 sold in New York for 2027), which has no network: any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, anywhere in the country. Albany-region Medigap premiums are on the rates page, the ten standard plans are compared in Medigap plans A to N, and the trade-offs are in Advantage vs Medigap in New York.
How to narrow 2027's list to your plan
- Start with your doctors and hospital. Which carriers each Capital Region hospital lists is on the hospital pages; the plan's own directory is the final check.
- Then your prescriptions. Each plan's drug list (formulary) and tiers decide what you pay at the pharmacy; Part D premiums for 2027 covers what's changing.
- Then the plan type you can live with: Medicare Advantage in upstate New York explains HMO, HMO-POS, PPO and special-needs plans.
- Check what changed if you already have a plan: what changed for 2027, and what to do if your plan is ending.
The 8-question plan finder narrows it on your own, or book a 2027 plan review and I'll compare the plans I can offer against your doctors and prescriptions. There's no fee.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are there in the Capital Region for 2027?
Between 22 and 57 per county, according to the CMS landscape file read October 27, 2026. Many plans are sold in several counties, so the counties share most of their list; each county page shows its own.
When can I sign up for a 2027 plan?
During Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7; the plan starts January 1. If you're turning 65 or have another qualifying event, your own enrollment period may apply instead.
Why are there no premiums or benefits on these pages?
I keep the plan tables to what Medicare's plan file lists: name, carrier, type and special-needs status. Premiums, benefits and star ratings belong in material the carriers review under Medicare's marketing rules. They are on medicare.gov/plan-compare and in each plan's Summary of Benefits, and I go through them with you against your own doctors and prescriptions.
Do you sell every plan on these lists?
No. I'm appointed with 10 organizations; each county page marks which plans I can enroll you in, and lists the others so the picture is complete.
