• St. Mary's Healthcare, with St. Mary's Hospital at 427 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam, (518) 842-1900. Its own history page says it left the Ascension Health network in 2021. Its accepted-insurance page lists carriers, not Medicare Advantage plans, so the first network question is whether the specific plan lists St. Mary's.
• Specialists in Schenectady or Albany. If you also see doctors there, check them separately. Ellis Hospital and Albany Medical Center each have a page with their own accepted-insurance wording.

What's particular about Montgomery County

• Its own plan list. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so an Amsterdam address and an address across the line in Schenectady County can see different plan lists.
• Distance. In the western towns, around Canajoharie, Fort Plain and St. Johnsville, check where a plan's in-network doctors actually are before you choose it: a small local network can cost you in miles, not just dollars.
• Help with costs. New York's Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help and EPIC have no asset test for the Medicare Savings Program, so they're worth checking even if you think your income is too high.
