Medicare agent for Essex County
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Essex County residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Most Medicare choices here start with one question: how does the plan treat Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Adirondack Health and the doctors around them?
Where Essex County residents get care
- University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, a critical access hospital at 75 Park Street in Elizabethtown (518-873-6377), with a second campus at 101 Adirondack Drive in Ticonderoga (518-585-3700) that has a 24-hour emergency department. Hudson Headwaters' Ticonderoga Health Center is on the same Ticonderoga campus.
- Adirondack Health: Adirondack Medical Center at 2233 State Route 86 in Saranac Lake (518-891-4141), with 24-hour emergency care, and health centers in Lake Placid and Keene.
- Glens Falls Hospital. If you use Glens Falls Hospital or see specialists there, check it separately; the Glens Falls Hospital page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
Elizabethtown Community Hospital and Adirondack Health have no page of their own here. Before we look at a single premium, I run every doctor and hospital you use against each plan's current directory for Essex County.
What's particular about Essex County
- Its own plan list. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so the list that applies is the one for the county your home is in, not the one your post office name suggests. Near the county lines around Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, that is worth checking.
- Distance. A plan with a small local network can cost you in miles, not just dollars, so we look at where its in-network providers actually are relative to your address.
- Part-year residents. If you spend part of the year somewhere else, check how a plan handles routine care away from home. An HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Elizabethtown (12932), Ticonderoga (12883), Lake Placid (12946) and Keene (12942). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.

Medicare Advantage plans in Essex County
Advantage plans are filed and priced by county, so the list for Essex County is its own list. The carriers whose plans I'm authorized to offer here are the 11 on the carriers page, each with what it sells and which of the region's hospitals list it; which of their plans are sold in Essex County changes each January. What decides the choice in this county is whether the plan lists Elizabethtown Community Hospital or Adirondack Health, whichever you use, and any doctors you see farther afield — the plan's provider directory, not the carrier name, is the final check.

How a plan review works
- A short call by phone or WhatsApp: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage.
- A written comparison of the two or three plans I'd genuinely consider for you, with total yearly cost, not just premium, gone through together by video or phone.
- If you enroll through me, I submit it and remain your contact. No fee for any of it.
If you're turning 65, start about six months out. If you're already on a plan, check it during the Annual Enrollment Period each fall. Next door: Warren County. Request a review.
