Medicare agent for Ticonderoga

Ticonderoga sits where Lake George meets Lake Champlain, in Essex County, with Vermont across the lake. Its medical campus on Adirondack Drive has a 24-hour emergency department run by University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, and Hudson Headwaters' Ticonderoga Health Center on the same campus. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Ticonderoga residents by phone, WhatsApp and video.

Where Ticonderoga residents get care

Ticonderoga's medical campus at 101 Adirondack Drive holds two separate organizations, and a plan's directory lists each one on its own:

  • University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Ticonderoga campus (518-585-3700) — open around the clock, with a 24-hour emergency department and an outpatient center: cardiology, infusion, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, laboratory, physical therapy and imaging. The main hospital, a critical access hospital, is at 75 Park Street in Elizabethtown (518-873-6377).
  • Hudson Headwaters Health Network – Ticonderoga Health Center, Suite 2 on the same campus (518-585-6708) — family medicine, lab, podiatry, behavioral health, and nutrition counseling and diabetes education; open Monday and Thursday 8 to 8, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8 to 5, and Saturday 8 to 4.
  • After a hospital stay. The Town's 2026 community profile names Elderwood at Ticonderoga for long-term care and skilled nursing, with rehabilitation. With a Medicare Advantage plan, the facility has to be checked in the network too.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any rehab afterwards all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Neither Elizabethtown Community Hospital nor Hudson Headwaters has a page of its own on this site, so I check each of them, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory for Essex County. If you also see specialists at Glens Falls Hospital, its page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.

What's particular about Ticonderoga

  • Its own county's list. Ticonderoga is in Essex County, so it sees the Essex County plan list: 22 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. The Town's county roads run to the Warren County and Washington County lines, and neighbors over either line choose from their own county's list.
  • Vermont across the lake. The Fort Ticonderoga Ferry crosses Lake Champlain to Shoreham, Vermont, on Route 74, from May to October. If you use doctors or a hospital across the state line, that decides more than anything else. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider that accepts Medicare; a Medicare Advantage plan works only as far as its network, so each Vermont provider has to be checked by name.
  • Getting to appointments. The Town lists a Ticonderoga Area Senior Bus on weekdays, 7:30 to 3:30 (the number is on the Town's senior programs page). The Essex County Office for the Aging arranges medical rides for residents 60 and over with volunteer drivers, and Essex County Public Transportation's Champlain South route runs on weekdays between Ticonderoga and Elizabethtown ((800) 914-9266). If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere you can reach.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Ticonderoga (12883). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Ticonderoga

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Ticonderoga residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, on either side of the lake, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call; the comparison comes to you in writing and we go through it together by video or phone.

What a Ticonderoga plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory: the Ticonderoga campus and Elizabethtown Community Hospital, the Hudson Headwaters health center, and any Glens Falls or Vermont providers.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Ticonderoga include the hospital on Adirondack Drive?

It depends on the plan. The Ticonderoga campus at 101 Adirondack Drive (518-585-3700) is part of University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, whose main hospital is at 75 Park Street in Elizabethtown. Hudson Headwaters' Ticonderoga Health Center (518-585-6708) is a separate organization on the same campus, and a plan's directory lists each one on its own. Neither has a page of its own on this site; I check the hospital, the health center and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory for Essex County.

My doctors are in Vermont. Can a New York Medicare plan cover them?

Original Medicare with a Medigap policy covers any provider in the country that accepts Medicare, including Vermont. A Medicare Advantage plan depends on its network: an HMO generally covers out-of-network care only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis, and a PPO may cover out-of-network providers at a higher cost. Check each Vermont doctor and hospital by name in the plan's own directory before you enroll.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Ticonderoga?

The Town lists a Ticonderoga Area Senior Bus, weekdays 7:30 to 3:30; its number is on the Town's senior programs page. The Essex County Office for the Aging arranges medical transportation for county residents 60 and over with volunteer drivers; ask as early as you can, on (518) 873-3695. Essex County Public Transportation's Champlain South route runs on weekdays between Ticonderoga and Elizabethtown by way of Crown Point, Port Henry, Moriah and Westport ((800) 914-9266). Medicaid members may qualify for free non-emergency medical rides, booked through MAS at 866-883-7865.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Ticonderoga residents?

The Essex County Office for the Aging in Elizabethtown, (518) 873-3695, says its outreach staff give unbiased information on Medicare, Part D, EPIC, Medicaid and long-term care insurance. HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, has a statewide line, 1-800-701-0501. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; the county office is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.

Do you meet Ticonderoga clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Ticonderoga residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A review covers the same ground that way: your doctors, including any in Vermont, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage, and the plans sold at your address.
