Medicare agent for Ulster County
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Ulster County residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Most Medicare choices here start with one question: how does the plan treat HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, Ellenville Regional Hospital and the doctors around them?
Where Ulster County residents get care
- HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston (845-338-2500), part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).
- Ellenville Regional Hospital, at 10 Healthy Way in Ellenville (845-647-6400), which describes itself as a critical access hospital.
- Doctors outside the county. If you see specialists in Dutchess County or further south, check them separately: a hospital in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts.
Neither hospital has a page of its own here. Before we look at a single premium, I run every doctor and hospital you use against each plan's current directory for Ulster County.
What's particular about Ulster County
- Its own plan list. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so a Kingston address and a Rhinebeck address across the river in Dutchess County can see different plan lists even when both use the same doctors.
- Distance. A plan with a small local network can cost you in miles, not just dollars, so we look at where its in-network providers actually are relative to your address.
- Part-year residents. If you spend part of the year somewhere else, check how a plan handles routine care away from home. An HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.
- Retiree coverage. If you retired from New York State, a school district or another employer with retiree health coverage, how it coordinates with Medicare comes first; NYSHIP retirees have their own rules.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.

Medicare Advantage plans in Ulster County
Advantage plans are filed and priced by county, so the list for Ulster County is its own list. The carriers whose plans I'm authorized to offer here are the 11 on the carriers page, each with what it sells and which of the region's hospitals list it; which of their plans are sold in Ulster County changes each January. What decides the choice in this county is whether the plan lists HealthAlliance Hospital and WMCHealth, or Ellenville Regional Hospital, whichever you use, and any specialists you see outside the county — the plan's provider directory, not the carrier name, is the final check.

How a plan review works
- A short call by phone or WhatsApp: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage.
- A written comparison of the two or three plans I'd genuinely consider for you, with total yearly cost, not just premium, gone through together by video or phone.
- If you enroll through me, I submit it and remain your contact. No fee for any of it.
If you're turning 65, start about six months out. If you're already on a plan, check it during the Annual Enrollment Period each fall. Next door: Greene County and Dutchess County. Request a review.
