Medicare agent for Woodstock

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Woodstock residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Woodstock is a town of nine hamlets in north-central Ulster County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, whichever hamlet you live in.

Where Woodstock residents get care

Woodstock has a primary-care practice in town, and HealthAlliance Hospital is in Kingston. They belong to two different health systems:

  • Northwell Health runs Northwell Health Primary Care at Woodstock at 404 Zena Road ((845) 679-5271; weekdays 8 to 5), with internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics, in person or by telehealth.
  • HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston (845-338-2500), is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).

Each system contracts with Medicare Advantage carriers separately, so a plan can include one and not the other. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. HealthAlliance has no page of its own here; I check it, the Zena Road practice and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory for Ulster County.

What's particular about Woodstock

  • Nine hamlets, one plan list. The county's 2024 hazard plan describes the town as nine hamlets, with the hamlet of Woodstock as its center of local services and Zena, Wittenberg, Willow and Lake Hill among its residential hamlets. All of them are in Ulster County, so all see the Ulster County plan list: 34 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Greene County (49 plans) and Dutchess County (42 plans) have lists of their own, so doctors you see in either county have to be checked against the Ulster County plan you choose. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • An older town. The same plan, citing Census Bureau estimates, counts more than a third of Woodstock's residents as 65 or older. If you are turning 65, start about six months out; if you already have a plan, check it against your doctors each fall, because networks and formularies change every year.
  • Getting to appointments. If you are 60 or older and registered with the Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free: two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. The van needs an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and runs on availability. UCAT's Route Z runs Monday to Saturday and serves Kingston, Woodstock, Phoenicia, Pine Hill and Belleayre; UCAT's main line is (845) 334-8458. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those routes reach.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Woodstock

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Woodstock residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Woodstock plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including HealthAlliance Hospital and the Zena Road practice.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

I live in Zena or Lake Hill, not the hamlet of Woodstock. Is my plan list different?

No. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not which hamlet or post office you use. Every hamlet in the Town of Woodstock is in Ulster County, so all of them see the Ulster County list. What changes from one address to the next is which doctors are within reach, and I check each one by name in the plan's directory.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Woodstock include HealthAlliance Hospital?

It depends on the plan. HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston, is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), and Northwell Health Primary Care at Woodstock, on Zena Road, belongs to Northwell Health. Each system contracts with plans separately. Before you enroll, I check the hospital, the practice and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Ulster County.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Woodstock?

If you are 60 or older and registered with the Ulster County Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT buses or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free, up to two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. Van rides need an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and depend on availability. UCAT's Route Z runs Monday to Saturday and serves Kingston, Woodstock, Phoenicia, Pine Hill and Belleayre. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Woodstock residents?

The Ulster County Office for the Aging at 1003 Development Court in Kingston, (845) 340-3456, runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, with one-on-one appointments at the office or in the community. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.

Do you meet Woodstock clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Woodstock residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
