Medicare agent for the Town of Esopus and Port Ewen
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Esopus residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Esopus sits between the Hudson, the Rondout Creek and the Wallkill River, across the Rondout from Kingston, and its eleven hamlets, Port Ewen and Ulster Park among them, all choose from Ulster County's Medicare Advantage plans.
Where Esopus residents get care
Across the Rondout Creek in Kingston is HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue (845-338-2500), part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). If you see doctors or specialists elsewhere, in another health system or another county, they have to be checked on their own: a plan that lists one system's hospital does not necessarily list another's.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. HealthAlliance has no page of its own here; I check it, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory for Ulster County.
What's particular about Esopus
- Eleven hamlets, one county list. The Town lists its hamlets as Connelly, Dashville, Esopus, New Salem, Port Ewen, Rifton, St. Remy, Sleightsburgh, Ulster Park, Union Center and West Park. Port Ewen, Ulster Park, Esopus and West Park are on the Hudson; Sleightsburgh, Connelly and New Salem on the Rondout Creek; Rifton and Dashville on the Wallkill. All of them see the Ulster County plan list: 34 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Route 213 and the Eddyville Bridge. The Town's section of the county's 2024 hazard plan says residents meet flooding past the Eddyville Bridge on Route 213 when leaving town, and that this is the easiest route to Kingston and its hospitals from western Esopus. If you live on that side of town, a plan with in-network doctors you can reach another way is worth weighing.
- Getting to appointments. If you are 60 or older and registered with the Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free: two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. The van needs an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and runs on availability. UCAT's Port Ewen Loop runs Tuesdays and Thursdays between Port Ewen, Midtown and Uptown Kingston. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
- Phone signal. The same hazard plan notes poor cell service in parts of town. A review works just as well on a landline call, with the written comparison sent by email or post.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. The county's hazard plan puts 23.9 percent of the town's residents at 65 or older. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover two of those cases.

How we work from Esopus
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Esopus residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What an Esopus plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they admit to.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
Does Port Ewen have a different plan list from the rest of Esopus?
No. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live. Port Ewen is one of the eleven hamlets of the Town of Esopus, with Ulster Park, Rifton, West Park and the rest, and the whole town is in Ulster County, as is Kingston across the Rondout Creek. Whether your doctors are in the directory of the plan you choose is a separate question, and I check each one by name.
Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Esopus use?
It depends on the plan and on your doctors. HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston, is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). A plan can include one health system and not another, so I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Ulster County.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Esopus?
If you are 60 or older and registered with the Ulster County Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT buses or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free, up to two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. Van rides need an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and depend on availability. UCAT's Port Ewen Loop runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Port Ewen, Midtown and Uptown Kingston. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
