Medicare agent for New Paltz
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with New Paltz residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of New Paltz, with the Village inside it and SUNY New Paltz, is in Ulster County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from.
Where New Paltz residents get care
- Primary care on Main Street. The Institute for Family Health runs the New Paltz Family Health Center at 279 Main Street, Suite 102 (845-255-2930), with primary care, behavioral health and podiatry, and help with insurance and benefits enrollment.
- HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston (845-338-2500), part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).
- Specialists in Poughkeepsie. WMCHealth's MidHudson Regional Hospital is at 241 North Road in Poughkeepsie (845-483-5000), in Dutchess County. If you see specialists there, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Neither hospital has a page of its own here; I check each one, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory for Ulster County.
What's particular about New Paltz
- Town and village, one plan list. The Village of New Paltz sits inside the Town, and both are in Ulster County, so both see the Ulster County plan list: 34 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Poughkeepsie, where UCAT's UPL route ends at the train station, is in Dutchess County (42 plans). Doctors in either county have to be checked against the Ulster County plan you choose. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. If you are 60 or older and registered with the Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free: two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. The van needs an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and runs on availability. UCAT's New Paltz Loop runs through the village and town on Tuesdays and Saturdays; on weekdays the CL route links SUNY New Paltz and the community college with connections to Kingston Plaza and Ellenville, and UCAT lists Kingston–New Paltz connections. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those routes reach.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from New Paltz
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with New Paltz residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a New Paltz plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including HealthAlliance Hospital and any specialists in Poughkeepsie.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Ulster County. Nearby: Kingston · Saugerties · Poughkeepsie · Dutchess County.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
I live in New Paltz and see a specialist in Poughkeepsie. Which plan list do I get?
Ulster County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. The town and the village of New Paltz are both in Ulster County; Poughkeepsie is in Dutchess County, which has its own list. What matters for your Poughkeepsie specialist is whether they are in the directory of the Ulster County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.
Do Medicare Advantage plans in New Paltz include HealthAlliance Hospital?
It depends on the plan. HealthAlliance Hospital, at 105 Mary's Avenue in Kingston, is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), as is MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Before you enroll, I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Ulster County.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from New Paltz?
If you are 60 or older and registered with the Ulster County Office for the Aging, you can ride UCAT buses or the Office for the Aging's wheelchair-accessible medical van free, up to two round trips a week for medical care and one for shopping. Van rides need an advance reservation at (845) 334-8120, weekdays 8 to 4, and depend on availability. UCAT's New Paltz Loop runs through the village and town on Tuesdays and Saturdays. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
Where is free Medicare counselling for New Paltz residents?
The Ulster County Office for the Aging at 1003 Development Court in Kingston, (845) 340-3456, runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, with one-on-one appointments at the office or in the community. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet New Paltz clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with New Paltz residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
