Medicare agent for Hamilton County
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Hamilton County residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Most Medicare choices here start with one question: how does the plan treat the health center you use, the hospital you'd go to and the doctors you already see?
Where Hamilton County residents get care
- Indian Lake Health Center, at 6356 State Route 30 in Indian Lake, 518-648-5707, run by Hudson Headwaters Health Network, with family medicine, lab services and behavioral health. It is the network's only listed site in the county. Hudson Headwaters' insurance page names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, so the plan's own directory is the check.
- Glens Falls Hospital, part of the Albany Med Health System, whose physician practices list Hamilton County in the area they serve. If it's the hospital you'd use, the Glens Falls Hospital page has its own accepted-insurance wording.
- Other hospitals and specialists. If you see doctors in another direction, check each one separately: a plan that lists one hospital does not automatically list the next.
Before we look at a single premium, I run every doctor you see against each plan's current directory for Hamilton County.
What's particular about Hamilton County
- Its own plan list. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so a Speculator address and an address across the line in a neighbouring county can see different plan lists.
- Distance. In a county this rural, the nearest in-network doctor can be a long drive. A plan with a small local network costs you in miles, not just dollars, so we look at where the in-network providers actually are.
- Winters away. If you spend part of the year somewhere else, check how a plan handles routine care away from home. An HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.
- Help with costs. New York's Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help and EPIC have no asset test for the Medicare Savings Program, so they're worth checking even if you think your income is too high.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.

Medicare Advantage plans in Hamilton County
Advantage plans are filed and priced by county, so the list for Hamilton County is its own list. The carriers whose plans I'm authorized to offer here are the 11 on the carriers page, each with what it sells and which of the region's hospitals list it; which of their plans are sold in Hamilton County changes each January. What decides the choice in this county is whether the plan lists the Hudson Headwaters health center you use, the hospital you'd go to, and any specialists you see outside the county — the plan's provider directory, not the carrier name, is the final check.

- A short call by phone, WhatsApp or video: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage.

Does the Indian Lake Health Center take Medicare Advantage plans?
The Indian Lake Health Center is run by Hudson Headwaters Health Network. Hudson Headwaters' insurance page lists Medicare and the insurance carriers it participates with, but it names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, and says to call the carrier if yours isn't listed. A carrier is not a plan, so before you enroll I check the health center and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory.
