Medicare agent for Speculator and the Town of Lake Pleasant

Speculator is the village the Town of Lake Pleasant calls its economic and social center, in Hamilton County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from. Primary care in the village is at a Nathan Littauer health center. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Speculator and Lake Pleasant residents by phone, WhatsApp and video.

Where Speculator residents get care

  • Speculator Primary/Specialty Care Center, 2862 State Highway 8, behind the library (518-548-8155; weekdays 8 to 5). The Town of Lake Pleasant and Nathan Littauer Hospital set it up together in 1996, and Littauer runs it, with family practice, a lab and a retail pharmacy.
  • Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home, 99 East State Street in Gloversville (518-725-8621), the center's parent: a 74-bed acute care hospital with an 84-bed skilled nursing home. Its billing page says physicians who work in the hospital may or may not take the same plans as the hospital, so the hospital and each doctor get checked separately. More on Littauer is on the Gloversville page.
  • Glens Falls Hospital, part of the Albany Med Health System, whose physician practices list Hamilton County in the area they serve. The Glens Falls Hospital page shows which carriers it lists.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab or nursing stay after it all have to be in the plan's directory for the year, and a plan that lists one hospital does not automatically list another. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. I check the Speculator center, the hospital and each specialist by name in the plan's directory before we compare anything else.

What's particular about Speculator and Lake Pleasant

  • A Hamilton County address. Speculator and the rest of the Town of Lake Pleasant see the Hamilton County plan list: 33 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Plans are filed by where you live, so a Gloversville hospital doesn't change your list; it changes which directories we have to check.
  • A pharmacy at the health center. Littauer lists a retail pharmacy among the Speculator center's services. For Part D, the question is whether that pharmacy is in each plan's network and what your drugs cost there, so I price them at the pharmacy you actually use.
  • Care at home. Hamilton County Public Health and Nursing Services runs a Certified Home Health Agency from Indian Lake (518-648-6141), with nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, medical social work and home health aides. The County says it accepts Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance, and takes referrals from doctors, hospitals, family or the patient. With a Medicare Advantage plan, the agency has to be in the plan's network too.
  • Getting to appointments. The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging lists scheduled town transportation in Lake Pleasant, booked with the town's reservation clerk at least 24 hours ahead, and volunteer drivers for medical appointments; ask the office (1-888-553-4994) how to arrange either. If a plan's specialists are somewhere you can't easily get to, that counts against the plan.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Speculator (12164) and Lake Pleasant (12108). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Speculator

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Speculator and Lake Pleasant residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions and pharmacy, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Speculator plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Speculator center, Nathan Littauer, Glens Falls Hospital and any other specialists.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

I live in Speculator. Which Medicare plan list do I get?

Hamilton County's. The Village of Speculator is in the Town of Lake Pleasant, which is in Hamilton County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. If your hospital is Nathan Littauer in Gloversville, that doesn't change your list; it changes which directories we have to check.

Does the Speculator health center take Medicare Advantage plans?

The Speculator Primary/Specialty Care Center at 2862 State Highway 8 (518-548-8155) is run by Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home. Littauer's billing page asks patients to check with their own plan, because each plan has many networks, and says physicians who work in the hospital may or may not participate with the same plans as the hospital. So before you enroll I check the center, the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory.

Can I fill my prescriptions in Speculator?

Littauer lists a retail pharmacy among the services at its Speculator center. With a Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage, the pharmacy has to be in the plan's network, and the price of each drug can differ between network pharmacies. I price your prescriptions through each plan's formulary at the pharmacy you actually use, for the whole year.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Speculator and Lake Pleasant?

The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging runs HIICAP, New York's free, unbiased Medicare counselling program, for Warren and Hamilton county residents, from the Human Services Building at 1340 State Route 9 in Lake George, (518) 761-6347. Its Hamilton County line is 1-888-553-4994. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Speculator clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Speculator residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
