Medicare agent for Gloversville

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Gloversville and Johnstown residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Both cities are in Fulton County, which has its own list of Medicare Advantage plans, and two separate health organizations have offices here, so the doctors you already see decide a lot.

Where Gloversville and Johnstown residents get care

Two separate organizations have doctors' offices in the two cities, and a plan can list one and not the other:

  • Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home, 99 East State Street in Gloversville (518-725-8621): a 74-bed acute care hospital with an 84-bed skilled nursing home. Its Gloversville Primary/Specialty Care Center is at the same address, with internal medicine, family practice, a lab and Quick N' Sick urgent care, open weekdays and weekends. The Johnstown Primary/Specialty Care Center is at 23 South Perry Street (518-736-1500, weekdays 8 to 5), with internal medicine, family practice and lab services.
  • St. Mary's Healthcare, based in Amsterdam: the Gloversville Family Health Center (518-773-8894) and Gloversville Urgent Care Center (518-773-7710), both at 84 East State Street, and the Johnstown Family Health Center at 700 South Perry Street (518-762-3161). Its hospital is St. Mary's Hospital, 427 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam.

Littauer's billing page says physicians who work in the hospital may or may not take the same plans as the hospital, so the hospital and each doctor get checked separately. With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab or nursing stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. If you also see specialists further away, the pages for Saratoga Hospital, Ellis Hospital and Albany Medical Center show which carriers each one lists; I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Gloversville and Johnstown

  • The plan list is Fulton County's, even for care in Amsterdam. Gloversville and Johnstown see the Fulton County list: 37 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. St. Mary's Hospital is in Amsterdam, in Montgomery County (39 plans). Plans follow where you live, so what matters is whether St. Mary's is in the directory of the Fulton County plan you pick.
  • Getting to appointments. The Fulton County Office for Aging and Youth runs a door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible bus countywide for people 60 and over, Monday through Friday, for medical treatment, senior centers, meal sites, banking and shopping. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead at 518-736-5650; a staff member must see you before you can ride. The Gloversville Transit System (518-773-4528) runs a city route Monday through Saturday with a stop at Nathan Littauer Hospital, a weekday route through Johnstown, and a weekday route to Amsterdam that stops at both St. Mary's sites. Seniors ride at a reduced fare, and paratransit, by application, serves people who can't get to a fixed route. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those routes reach.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Gloversville (12078) and Johnstown (12095). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Social Security is in town. Social Security's office locator assigns both ZIP codes to its Gloversville office at 13 North Arlington Avenue. Medicare Part A and B sign-up runs through Social Security.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. Whether an individual plan adds to retiree or employer coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Gloversville and Johnstown

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Gloversville and Johnstown residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Gloversville or Johnstown plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including whether they are with Nathan Littauer or St. Mary's and which hospital they admit to.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Gloversville include Nathan Littauer Hospital?

It depends on the plan. Littauer's billing page asks patients to contact their insurance plan because each plan offers many networks, and it says physicians who work in the hospital may or may not participate with the same plans as the hospital. So I check Nathan Littauer and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory before you enroll.

My doctor is at a St. Mary's health center in Gloversville or Johnstown. Does that change anything?

Yes, it is a separate check. St. Mary's Healthcare, based in Amsterdam, runs the Gloversville Family Health Center and Gloversville Urgent Care Center on East State Street and the Johnstown Family Health Center on South Perry Street. It is a different organization from Nathan Littauer, so a plan can list one and not the other. I look up both, and the hospital each doctor admits to.

I don't drive. How do I get to appointments in Gloversville or Johnstown?

The Fulton County Office for Aging and Youth runs a door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible bus anywhere in the county for people 60 and over, Monday through Friday, for medical visits, meal sites, banking and shopping. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead at 518-736-5650; a staff member has to see you before your first ride. The Gloversville Transit System's city route stops at Nathan Littauer Hospital Monday through Saturday, its Johnstown route runs weekdays, and it has paratransit for people who can't get to a fixed route (518-773-4528).
