Where Broadalbin residents get care

• Broadalbin Primary/Specialty Care Center, 103 County Highway 138 (518-883-1023), a Nathan Littauer center open weekdays 7 to 5:30, with adult medicine and lab services. Littauer also runs the Perth Primary/Specialty Care Center at 4104 State Highway 30 in Perth (518-883-8620, weekdays 8 to 5), with internal and family medicine, women's health, podiatry and a lab.
• Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home, 99 East State Street in Gloversville (518-725-8621): a 74-bed acute care hospital with an 84-bed skilled nursing home.

Littauer's billing page says physicians who work in the hospital may or may not take the same plans as the hospital, so the hospital, the care center and each doctor get checked separately. With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab or nursing stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. If you also see specialists in Saratoga Springs, Schenectady or Albany, the pages for Saratoga Hospital, Ellis Hospital and Albany Medical Center show which carriers each one lists; I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Broadalbin

• The Fulton County list, right at the Saratoga County line. The town sits along the eastern edge of Fulton County, and its east line is the Saratoga County border. Broadalbin addresses see the Fulton County list: 37 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027; a neighbour across the line sees Saratoga County's (52 plans). Plans follow where you live, so a Saratoga County doctor has to be in the directory of the Fulton County plan you pick. The Village of Broadalbin extends west into the Town of Mayfield, which is also in Fulton County.
• If Broadalbin is a second home. The town is at the south end of the Great Sacandaga Lake and partly in the Adirondack Park. If your Broadalbin house is a second home and your permanent residence is somewhere else, your plan list is the one for your permanent address, so tell me both.
• Getting to appointments. The Fulton County Office for Aging and Youth runs a door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible bus countywide for people 60 and over, Monday through Friday, for medical treatment, senior centers, meal sites, banking and shopping. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead at 518-736-5650; a staff member must see you before you can ride. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors need to be within the county or reachable another way.
• Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Broadalbin (12025).
