Medicare help in Clifton Park
My office is on Clifton Park Center Road, off Northway Exit 9, so this is home turf. Clifton Park has no hospital of its own, which means residents split their care across four different health systems — and that single fact shapes which Medicare plans work here.
Where Clifton Park residents get care
Every major Capital Region system has planted a flag along Route 146 and Sitterly Road, and each one admits to a different hospital:
- Ellis Medicine — Medical Center of Clifton Park, 103 Sitterly Road: emergent care seven days a week, primary care, imaging and lab. Hospital admissions go to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
- Albany Med Health System — the Clifton Park Specialty Care Center at 453 Route 146 and EmUrgentCare at 989 Route 146. Admissions go to Albany Medical Center.
- St. Peter's Health Partners — the medical campus at 1 Tallow Wood Drive, with primary care and several specialties. Admissions go to St. Peter's in Albany or Samaritan in Troy.
- Saratoga Hospital — practices in Malta and Wilton for many residents of the northern end of town; the hospital itself is in Saratoga Springs and is a member of the Albany Med Health System.
Most Clifton Park households see doctors from at least two of these. For a Medicare Advantage HMO that's a real constraint: a plan that includes your Ellis primary-care doctor may not include the Albany Med cardiologist she refers you to. PPO plans and Original Medicare with a Medigap policy don't have that problem, which is why they end up being the answer for a lot of my neighbours.
What's particular about Clifton Park
- Retiring in place. A large share of the town's 65+ population retired from New York State, GE, or the school districts, often with retiree health coverage. Whether an individual Medicare plan adds to that coverage or cancels it is the first question — before premiums, before extras.
- Two ZIP codes, one town. Clifton Park and Halfmoon share 12065; Rexford is 12148. Plan availability is set by county, so all of them see the Saratoga County line-up — but premiums for the same Medigap plan can differ from Albany County, ten minutes south.
- Snowbirds. Plenty of Clifton Park retirees spend January to March in Florida or the Carolinas. An HMO built around one local hospital won't travel; that's a Medigap or PPO conversation.

Senior Community Center, library, county HIICAP
The Clifton Park Senior Community Center at 6 Clifton Common Court (518-383-1343) is open weekdays to members 50 and over. The Clifton Park–Halfmoon Public Library at 475 Moe Road runs Medicare information sessions through the year. The office is at 451 Clifton Park Center Road, a minute from Exit 9 and the Clifton Park Center shops, with parking at the door. In-person meetings are by appointment so your comparison is ready when you arrive. Neighbourhoods I regularly visit at home: Clifton Knolls, Country Knolls, Rexford, Vischer Ferry, Jonesville, Groom's Corners, and Halfmoon across Route 9.

Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Clifton Park use?
There isn't one — Clifton Park has no hospital inside the town. Depending on your doctors you'll be sent to Saratoga Hospital, Ellis in Schenectady, Albany Med or St. Peter's in Albany, or Samaritan in Troy. A plan has to include the one your doctors admit to, and I check that before anything else.
Do you meet Clifton Park clients in person?
Yes, by appointment at 451 Clifton Park Center Rd, just off Exit 9. Evenings and weekend mornings are possible; the office is open Saturday and Sunday until 1 PM. I also do first calls by phone or WhatsApp, and can come to you in Halfmoon, Rexford or Jonesville.
I'm retiring from the state or GE and live in Clifton Park. What should I check first?
How your retiree health coverage coordinates with Medicare. NYSHIP requires Parts A and B and generally reimburses the Part B premium; some GE arrangements fund an individual plan instead. Enrolling in an outside Medicare Advantage plan can conflict with either. Bring your retiree paperwork to the call — it decides the whole strategy.
