Medicare agent for Mechanicville and Stillwater
Mechanicville is a small city on the west bank of the Hudson in southern Saratoga County, and it shares a senior medical van with the Town and Village of Stillwater. Neither has a hospital, so the first thing a Medicare plan has to fit is where your doctors send you: Saratoga Springs, Troy, Albany or Schenectady.
Where Mechanicville and Stillwater residents get care
There is a primary-care practice in the city but no hospital in Mechanicville or Stillwater, and the hospitals within reach belong to three health systems:
- Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center (Albany Med Health System). Saratoga Hospital's Primary Care Mechanicville is at 202 South Central Avenue (518-580-2099), with preventive and sick visits, chronic condition care, behavioral health and lab services. The hospital itself is at 211 Church Street in Saratoga Springs (518-587-3222), and Albany Medical Center is at 43 New Scotland Avenue in Albany (518-262-3125). The two hospitals share one accepted-carrier list, but a shared list does not mean every practice has the same plan contracts.
- Samaritan Hospital, 2215 Burdett Avenue, Troy (518-271-3300), and St. Peter's Hospital, 315 South Manning Boulevard, Albany (518-525-1550). Both are St. Peter's Health Partners and follow the same carrier list.
- Ellis Medicine — the Medical Center of Clifton Park at 103 Sitterly Road (518-579-2800), with walk-in emergent care from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day, primary care, imaging and lab. Admissions go to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, and Ellis contracts with carriers on its own.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to all have to be in the plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Every plan sold in Saratoga County is placed against Saratoga Hospital's list on the Saratoga Hospital page, and the pages for Samaritan, Albany Med, St. Peter's and Ellis show which carriers each one lists, side by side on one page. I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Mechanicville and Stillwater
- One medical van for the city and the town. The Stillwater Area Community Center's Elder Care van, supported by the Town of Stillwater, the City of Mechanicville and the county's Department of Aging and Youth Services, takes residents 60 and over who are not on Medicaid to medical appointments in Troy, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Glens Falls. It goes by where you physically live, not your mailing address, runs weekdays 9 to 4, and needs three working days' notice; book appointments by 2 p.m. if you need a ride home. If that's how you reach your doctors, the plan's network has to include doctors in those places.
- Getting around the city. Mechanicville's own bus serves city residents within city limits on weekdays from 9 to 3 and is free for riders 60 and older (518-664-9884, ext. 320 or 341). CDTA's Flex service covers Mechanicville, Halfmoon and Clifton Park on demand, seven days a week, booked through the Navigator app or at (518) 482-8822.
- One county plan list. The City of Mechanicville and the Town and Village of Stillwater are all in Saratoga County, so every address here sees the Saratoga County list: 52 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, the same as Halfmoon and Clifton Park. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Mechanicville (12118) and Stillwater (12170). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.
Mechanicville Senior Center, the Stillwater Area Community Center and the county Office for the Aging
The Mechanicville Senior Center is at 178 North Main Street, open weekdays 9 to 4 at (518) 664-9884, ext. 341. With the Saratoga County Office for the Aging it serves a 60+ lunch at noon on weekdays (reserve the day before at ext. 341 or 317), and it hosts a blood pressure clinic and AARP volunteer tax preparation. The Stillwater Area Community Center at 19 Palmer Street in Stillwater runs the Elder Care van (518-664-2515, ext. 218) and a Senior Time meet-up, usually the last Tuesday of the month at 11. Free, unbiased Medicare counselling is through the Saratoga County Office for the Aging, part of the county's Department of Aging and Youth Services at 152 West High Street in Ballston Spa (518-884-4100), which runs HIICAP by phone or in person by appointment and can screen you for the Medicare Savings Program and EPIC; the HIICAP page has every county office. Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501.

Meeting in Mechanicville and Stillwater
My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9; the city's own site puts Clifton Park and Malta 15 to 25 minutes from Mechanicville. I meet Mechanicville and Stillwater clients there, at home, or by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Mechanicville plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the practice on South Central Avenue and which hospital each doctor admits to: Saratoga, Albany Med, Samaritan, St. Peter's or Ellis.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Saratoga County. Nearby towns have their own pages: Halfmoon and Malta and Ballston Spa.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
I use the Stillwater Area Community Center van to get to my doctors. Does that matter for my Medicare plan?
It can. The Elder Care van takes people 60 and over who live in the Town or Village of Stillwater or the City of Mechanicville, and who are not on Medicaid, to medical appointments in Troy, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Glens Falls and the areas in between, weekdays from 9 to 4, booked at least three working days ahead. With Medicare Advantage, the doctors you reach that way also have to be in the plan's directory for the year. I check each one by name before we compare anything else.
Do Mechanicville and Stillwater have the same Medicare plans as Clifton Park?
Yes. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, and the City of Mechanicville and the Town and Village of Stillwater are all in Saratoga County, like Clifton Park, Halfmoon and Malta. The county list is the same everywhere in it; what differs from one person to the next is which plans include your doctors and price your prescriptions well.
Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Mechanicville use?
There isn't one in the city or in Stillwater. Depending on your doctors you'll be sent to Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs or Albany Medical Center (both Albany Med Health System), Samaritan in Troy or St. Peter's in Albany (both St. Peter's Health Partners), or Ellis in Schenectady. Each system publishes its own list of accepted carriers. A plan has to include the hospital your doctors admit to, and I check that by name in the plan's directory.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Mechanicville and Stillwater residents?
The Saratoga County Office for the Aging, part of the Department of Aging and Youth Services at 152 West High Street in Ballston Spa (518-884-4100), runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling, by phone or in person by appointment. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Mechanicville and Stillwater clients in person?
Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I also come to you at home in Mechanicville or anywhere in the Town of Stillwater. A first conversation can be by phone or WhatsApp; full reviews work well by video when that's easier.
