Medicare agent for Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake

The Town of Ballston, incorporated in 1788, keeps its post office box in Burnt Hills, its library and Jenkins Park are in Burnt Hills, and its fishing pier is on Ballston Lake. The town itself warns that a Ballston Lake or Ballston Spa address does not prove you live in the town, and for Medicare that matters: the plan list follows the county, and these ZIP codes reach into two.

Where Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake residents get care

The hospitals that matter here belong to two health systems, and a Medicare plan has to fit the one your doctors use:

  • Ellis Medicine — Ellis Hospital at 1101 Nott Street in Schenectady (518-243-4000). Ellis contracts with carriers on its own.
  • Albany Med Health System — Saratoga Hospital at 211 Church Street in Saratoga Springs (518-587-3222) and Albany Medical Center at 43 New Scotland Avenue in Albany (518-262-3125). Saratoga Hospital's Primary Care Scotia-Glenville practice is at 112 Charlton Road, with a Ballston Lake address (518-399-7723), weekdays 8 to 5.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to all have to be in the plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Every plan sold in Saratoga County is placed against Saratoga Hospital's list on the Saratoga Hospital page, and the pages for Ellis and Albany Med show which carriers each one lists, side by side with the other Capital Region hospitals on one page. Those lists name carriers, not plans, so I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake

  • The address doesn't settle the plan list. The Town of Ballston says a Ballston Lake or Ballston Spa mailing address does not necessarily mean you live in the town: you may be in Charlton, Clifton Park, Milton or Malta. Those are all Saratoga County towns, with 52 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. But the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file also puts part of the Ballston Lake (12019) and Burnt Hills (12027) ZIP areas in Schenectady County, which has its own list (57 plans for 2027). Plans are filed by county, so I confirm the county from your property record before comparing anything.
  • Moving within the area. A move across the county line, even with the same post office name, can change which plans you can keep. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that begins when you move and runs for two full months after it.
  • The Wellness Express van. The town co-funds a curb-to-curb van to medical appointments for residents 60 and over in Ballston, Charlton, Galway, Malta, Milton and Providence and the Village of Ballston Spa, weekdays, booked at least a week ahead at 518-399-3262. If that's how you get to the doctor, the doctors in a plan's network have to be ones the van can take you to.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Ballston Lake (12019) and Burnt Hills (12027) on either side of the county line. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Meeting in Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake

My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I meet Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake clients there, at home anywhere in the Town of Ballston, or by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your address and county, your doctors and which system they belong to, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Burnt Hills plan review covers

  1. Your county confirmed from the property record, then every doctor you see checked against each plan's current directory, including which hospital they admit to: Ellis, Saratoga or Albany Med.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Saratoga County. Nearby towns have their own pages: Ballston Spa, Malta, Clifton Park and, in Schenectady County, Glenville and Scotia.

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

My address says Ballston Lake. Which county's Medicare plans can I get?

It depends on where the house is, not the post office name. The Town of Ballston says a Ballston Lake or Ballston Spa mailing address does not necessarily mean you live in the town; you may be in Charlton, Clifton Park, Milton or Malta instead, all in Saratoga County. The Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file also puts part of the Ballston Lake (12019) and Burnt Hills (12027) ZIP areas in Schenectady County. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so I confirm the county from your property record before comparing anything.

Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Burnt Hills use?

There are three health systems to consider: Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, which contracts with carriers on its own, and Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center, both in the Albany Med Health System. Saratoga Hospital's Primary Care Scotia-Glenville practice has a Ballston Lake address on Charlton Road. The hospitals' lists name carriers, not plans, so I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory for the year.

I don't drive any more. How do I get to medical appointments from Burnt Hills?

The Town of Ballston lists the Wellness Express, a curb-to-curb van to medical appointments for residents 60 and over in the Towns of Ballston, Charlton, Galway, Malta, Milton and Providence and the Village of Ballston Spa. It runs Monday to Friday except holidays, contributions are voluntary, and trips are booked first come, first served, at least a week ahead, at 518-399-3262. The county Department of Aging and Youth Services also offers contribution-based rides for residents 60 and over.

Where is free Medicare counselling for the Town of Ballston?

The Saratoga County Office for the Aging, part of the Department of Aging and Youth Services at 152 West High Street in Ballston Spa (518-884-4100), open 9 to 5. Its HIICAP counsellors, trained staff and volunteers, help with Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help by phone or in person with a scheduled appointment. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
