Medicare agent for Glenville and Scotia

Glenville is the town and Scotia is the village inside it, on the north side of the Mohawk. Primary care here comes from two systems, Ellis on Saratoga Road and a Saratoga Hospital practice named for Scotia-Glenville, while the hospital most people use is across the river in Schenectady. A plan has to include the doctor you see and the hospital you'd be admitted to, and those are not always in the same system.

Where Glenville and Scotia residents get care

  • Ellis Primary Care – Glenville, 115 Saratoga Road, Suite 200 (518-243-3360) — Ellis Medicine's primary-care office in town. Admissions go to Ellis Hospital at 1101 Nott Street in Schenectady (518-243-4000), across the Mohawk. Ellis's participating-insurance list names carriers, not plans, and says its physicians bill separately and may or may not take the same plans as the hospital; every plan sold in Schenectady County is placed against the hospital's list on the Ellis Hospital page.
  • Primary Care Scotia-Glenville, a Saratoga Hospital practice at 112 Charlton Road, Ballston Lake (518-399-7723), listed by the Albany Med Health System. If your doctor is here, the plan has to include the Albany Med side: Saratoga Hospital and, for specialists, Albany Medical Center.
  • Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, 1270 Belmont Avenue, Schenectady (518-382-4500) — the St. Peter's Health Partners rehabilitation hospital, worth checking on any Advantage plan if a joint replacement or stroke recovery is a realistic prospect. The hospital network table has the St. Peter's details.

So a Glenville household can have an Ellis doctor, a Saratoga Hospital doctor and an Albany specialist, and Ellis and the Albany Med system contract with carriers separately. I check every doctor and the hospital by name in each plan's directory before comparing premiums. With Original Medicare and a Medigap policy there is no network, so all of them work as long as the provider accepts Medicare.

What's particular about Glenville and Scotia

  • A village inside a town. Scotia is a village within the Town of Glenville, and the whole town is in Schenectady County. Five public school districts serve parts of the town, including Scotia-Glenville, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Galway, but the school district doesn't decide your plans; the county does. Everyone here chooses from the Schenectady County list: 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027.
  • Saratoga County is a different list. My office is in Clifton Park, in Saratoga County, which has its own Medicare Advantage list (52 plans for 2027), filed separately from Schenectady County's. A move into Saratoga County can change which plans you can keep; a move to an address outside your plan's service area, or to one with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period.
  • Retiree coverage first. If you retired from a school district, the county, the state or a large employer, your retiree coverage may coordinate with Original Medicare or fund an individual plan, and joining an outside plan can cancel it. That question comes before premiums or extras; the paperwork to bring settles most of it.
  • PACE reaches Glenville. St. Peter's Eddy SeniorCare PACE program lists 12302 among the Schenectady County ZIP codes it serves, from its center in Rotterdam (518-382-3290). PACE is for people who need a nursing-home level of care and want to stay at home, and it replaces the usual plan comparison rather than adding to it. I don't enroll people in it, but if a parent is at that stage, it's worth knowing about.
  • Medigap is priced by region. New York's Department of Financial Services sets Medigap comparisons by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Glenville and Scotia. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.

Meeting in Glenville

My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I come to Glenville and Scotia clients at home, or we talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Glenville plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory: your Ellis or Saratoga Hospital primary-care office, Ellis Hospital, and any specialists in Schenectady or Albany.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Schenectady County.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

I live in the Village of Scotia. Is my plan list different from Glenville's?

No. Scotia is a village inside the Town of Glenville, and the whole town is in Schenectady County. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so a Scotia address and a Glenville address see the same plans. What differs from house to house is your doctors, your prescriptions and any retiree coverage, and that is what the comparison is built on.

My doctor is at Ellis in Glenville, but my spouse sees the Saratoga Hospital practice. Can one plan cover both?

Sometimes. Ellis Medicine and the Albany Med Health System, which Saratoga Hospital belongs to, contract with carriers separately, and each publishes a list that names carriers, not individual plans. Spouses don't have to be on the same plan, so I check each of your doctors by name in each plan's directory and compare for each of you. If one person's doctors are split across both systems, a PPO or Original Medicare with a Medigap policy is usually the safer structure.

If I move from Glenville to Clifton Park or elsewhere in Saratoga County, do I need a new plan?

Possibly. Saratoga County has its own Medicare Advantage list, filed separately from Schenectady County's. If your plan isn't offered at the new address, or the new address has plan options you didn't have, the move opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move. I check the new county's list before you move.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Glenville and Scotia?

Schenectady County Senior and Long Term Care Services at 797 Broadway in Schenectady runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program; appointments are booked at (518) 382-8481, ext. 1. The Glenville Senior Center at 32 Worden Road (518-374-0734) is the town's own center. HIICAP covers every plan and sells nothing; I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards.
