Medicare agent for Duanesburg and Delanson

Duanesburg is Schenectady County's westernmost town, which the county describes as 20 miles from Schenectady and Albany with easy access to I-88, and the Village of Delanson sits in its southern part. Schoharie County lies along its western end. A Medicare plan here has to fit the doctors and hospitals you actually drive to, whichever direction that is.

Where Duanesburg residents get care

Depending on where your doctors are, the hospital can be in Schenectady, in Albany or to the west in Schoharie County, and each belongs to a different health system:

  • Ellis Hospital, 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady (518-243-4000), run by Ellis Medicine, which contracts with plans on its own.
  • Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Albany (518-262-3125), the region's academic medical center, part of the Albany Med Health System.
  • St. Peter's Hospital, 315 South Manning Boulevard, Albany (518-525-1550), part of St. Peter's Health Partners, a separate system from Albany Med.
  • Cobleskill Regional Hospital, 178 Grandview Drive, Cobleskill (518-254-3456), part of the Bassett Healthcare Network. It is in Schoharie County, but a Duanesburg address still chooses from Schenectady County's plans, so the question is whether a plan on that list includes it.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to all have to be in the plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. The pages for Ellis, Albany Med and St. Peter's show which carriers each one lists, and the Capital Region hospitals are side by side on one page. Those lists name carriers, not plans, so I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Duanesburg and Delanson

  • A Delanson address doesn't settle the county. The Village of Delanson is in the Town of Duanesburg, in Schenectady County, and every address in the town sees the Schenectady County list: 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. But the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file shows the 12053 Delanson ZIP area also reaching into Albany, Montgomery and Schoharie counties. Plans follow the county you live in, not the name on your mail, so I confirm the county first.
  • Schoharie County is next door. The town's plan describes Route 30, which runs through the west end of town, as also the Schoharie County border. Schoharie County has its own plan list (34 plans for 2027), as does Albany County (57). A move across either line changes which plans you can have, and a move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • The pharmacy matters for Part D. The town's plan credits a grocery store's pharmacy as a substantial benefit to a community that lacked a pharmacy for many years. A drug plan's cost depends on whether your pharmacy is in its network, so I price your prescriptions at the pharmacy you actually use, and by mail where that costs less.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Delanson (12053). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Meeting in Duanesburg

My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I meet Duanesburg, Delanson and Quaker Street clients there, at home, or by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions and pharmacy, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Duanesburg plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including which hospital they admit to: Ellis, Albany Medical Center, St. Peter's or Cobleskill Regional.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Schenectady County. Nearby: Rotterdam, Schenectady, Guilderland and, across the county line, Cobleskill.

Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Duanesburg use?

That depends on where your doctors admit. In Schenectady it's Ellis Hospital; in Albany, Albany Medical Center or St. Peter's Hospital, which belong to two different health systems; and to the west, Cobleskill Regional Hospital in Schoharie County, part of the Bassett Healthcare Network. Each system contracts with plans on its own, so I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory for the year before we compare anything else.

My mailing address says Delanson. Which county's plans do I get?

The county you live in, not the post office's. The Village of Delanson is in the Town of Duanesburg, in Schenectady County, but the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file shows the 12053 Delanson ZIP area also reaching into Albany, Montgomery and Schoharie counties. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so I confirm which county your address is in before we look at any plan list.
