Medicare agent for Rotterdam
The Town of Rotterdam lists two hospitals for its residents, both in Schenectady: Ellis Medicine and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. Add the Albany Med urgent care on Altamont Avenue and the St. Peter's PACE center on Curry Road, and three health systems serve the town. A Medicare plan here has to fit the ones you actually use.
Where Rotterdam residents get care
- Ellis Hospital, 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady (518-243-4000) — the hospital for most Rotterdam households. Ellis's participating-insurance list names carriers, not plans, and says its physicians bill separately and may or may not take the same plans as the hospital, so I check the hospital and each doctor on their own. Every plan sold in Schenectady County is placed against Ellis's list on the Ellis Hospital page.
- Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, 1270 Belmont Avenue, Schenectady (518-382-4500) — part of St. Peter's Health Partners, so it follows the St. Peter's carrier list, not Ellis's. St. Peter's says Sunnyview does not participate in UnitedHealthcare or Oxford Medicare plans.
- EmUrgentCare Rotterdam, 1400 Altamont Avenue (518-264-9000) — Albany Med's walk-in urgent care in town. It belongs to a different system from Ellis, so a plan built around Ellis may or may not list it; I check.
- Specialists in Albany. If you see a cardiologist or oncologist at Albany Medical Center or St. Peter's, the plan has to include that system as well as Ellis.
That spread is the Medicare Advantage issue in Rotterdam: an Ellis hospital, a St. Peter's rehab hospital and an Albany Med urgent care can sit on three different carrier lists. The 2027 lists each system accepts are on one page. With Original Medicare and a Medigap policy there is no network, so all of them work as long as the provider accepts Medicare.
What's particular about Rotterdam
- Hamlets, one county. Rotterdam Junction, South Schenectady and Pattersonville are hamlets of the town, and mailing addresses vary. The whole town is in Schenectady County, so everyone here chooses from the same list: 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027.
- A PACE center in town. St. Peter's Health Partners runs its Eddy SeniorCare PACE program from 1938 Curry Road (518-382-3290). PACE is for people who need a nursing-home level of care and want to stay at home; it replaces the usual Advantage-and-drug-plan comparison rather than adding to it. If a parent is at that stage, it belongs in the conversation, even though I don't enroll people in it.
- School and public-sector retirees. If you retired from the Mohonasen or Schalmont school districts, or from the town, the county or the state, your retiree coverage may coordinate with Original Medicare or fund an individual plan. Whether a plan adds to that coverage or cancels it is the first question, before premiums or extras; the paperwork to bring settles most of it.
- The Albany County line. A move from Rotterdam into Guilderland or elsewhere in Albany County changes the county on your Medicare address. Plans are filed county by county, so I check the new county's list before you move, and a move to an address outside your plan's service area, or to one with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period.

Meeting in Rotterdam
My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I come to Rotterdam clients at home, in Rotterdam Junction and Pattersonville too, or we talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Rotterdam plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory: Ellis Hospital and your Ellis doctors, any Albany specialists, and Sunnyview if rehab is likely.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Schenectady County.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
Which hospital does a Medicare Advantage plan need to include if I live in Rotterdam?
Ellis Hospital on Nott Street in Schenectady, plus wherever your specialists are. Ellis publishes a list of participating carriers, but it names carriers, not individual plans, and it says physicians bill separately and may or may not take the same plans as the hospital. If you also see a specialist at Albany Med or St. Peter's, that system has to be in the plan too. I check each doctor and the hospital by name in the specific plan's directory before we compare anything else.
Does Sunnyview take my Medicare Advantage plan?
It depends on the plan. St. Peter's Health Partners, which runs Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, says on its accepted-insurance list that Sunnyview does not participate in UnitedHealthcare or Oxford Medicare plans, and that Humana Medicare plans stopped participating across the system on January 1, 2025. If a joint replacement or stroke recovery is a realistic prospect, I check Sunnyview in the plan's directory the same way I check your doctors.
What is Eddy SeniorCare, and is it instead of a Medicare plan?
Eddy SeniorCare, at 1938 Curry Road, is St. Peter's Health Partners' PACE program, which helps older adults with long-term care needs live at home. Medicare says PACE is for people 55 or older who live in the program's service area, need a nursing-home level of care as certified by the state, and can live safely in the community with PACE's help. PACE provides your Part D drugs itself, and joining a separate Medicare drug plan ends PACE enrollment, so it is an alternative to the usual plan comparison, not an add-on. I don't enroll people in PACE; the program's own line for eligibility questions is (518) 539-4986.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Rotterdam residents?
Schenectady County Senior and Long Term Care Services at 797 Broadway in Schenectady runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased counselling program; appointments are booked at (518) 382-8481, ext. 1. The Rotterdam Senior Center at 2639 Hamburg Street (518-356-1561) is the town's own center. HIICAP covers every plan and sells nothing; I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards.
