Medicare agent for Columbia County
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Columbia County residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Most Medicare choices here start with one question: how does the plan treat Columbia Memorial in Hudson and the doctors around it?
Where Columbia County residents get care
- Columbia Memorial Health, at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), part of the Albany Med Health System, with care centers across Columbia and Greene counties. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, by carrier. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check it, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory.
- Specialists in Albany. If you see specialists in Albany, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts. The Albany Medical Center page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
Before we look at a single premium, I run every doctor you see against each plan's current directory for Columbia County.
What's particular about Columbia County
- Its own plan list. Medicare Advantage plans are filed by county, so a Kinderhook address and a Schodack address across the line in Rensselaer County can see different plan lists even when both use the same doctors.
- Part-year residents. If you spend part of the year somewhere else, check how a plan handles routine care away from home. An HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.
- Retiree coverage. If you retired from New York State, a school district or another employer with retiree health coverage, how it coordinates with Medicare comes first; NYSHIP retirees have their own rules.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.

Medicare Advantage plans in Columbia County
Advantage plans are filed and priced by county, so the list for Columbia County is its own list. The carriers whose plans I'm authorized to offer here are the 11 on the carriers page, each with what it sells and which of the region's hospitals list it; which of their plans are sold in Columbia County changes each January. What decides the choice in this county is whether the plan lists Columbia Memorial and the Albany Med Health System, and any specialists you see in Albany — the plan's provider directory, not the carrier name, is the final check.

How a plan review works
- A short call by phone or WhatsApp: your ZIP code, your doctors, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage.
- A written comparison of the two or three plans I'd genuinely consider for you, with total yearly cost, not just premium, gone through together by video or phone.
- If you enroll through me, I submit it and remain your contact. No fee for any of it.
If you're turning 65, start about six months out. If you're already on a plan, check it during the Annual Enrollment Period each fall. Next door: Rensselaer County and Greene County. Request a review.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Columbia County include Columbia Memorial?
Columbia Memorial Health in Hudson is part of the Albany Med Health System, and the system's accepted-insurance page has a separate list of participating plans for Columbia Memorial Hospital. That list names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, so I check the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory before you enroll.
Do you come to Columbia County?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Columbia County residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A review covers the same ground that way: your doctors, your prescriptions and the plans sold at your address.
