Medicare agent for Hudson
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Hudson residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Hudson is in Columbia County, home to Columbia Memorial on Prospect Avenue, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, whichever side of the river your doctors are on.
Where Hudson residents get care
- Columbia Memorial Health, at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), part of the Albany Med Health System. Besides the hospital, it runs Rapid Care centers in Catskill, Copake and Valatie. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, by carrier, separate from Albany Medical Center's.
- Specialists in Albany. If you see specialists in Albany, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts. The Albany Medical Center page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check it, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Hudson
- A county line at the river. Hudson sees the Columbia County plan list: 48 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, Catskill is in Greene County (49 plans). Neighbors who use Columbia Memorial can be choosing from different lists. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays 8 to 4 except holidays; call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked, because rides are limited. The county's Office for the Aging arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677), and free rides to shopping, banks and pharmacies (518-828-4258, ext. 1). On buses, Columbia County Public Transportation (Johnston Transportation, 518-672-4901) runs the Hudson–Greenport Shopping Shuttle every day except holidays and an Albany Commuter with four weekday round trips to Albany, and will go up to three-quarters of a mile off route if you call by 4 p.m. the day before. Greene County Transit's Route 711 stops at Columbia Memorial Health and the Hudson train station on weekdays.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.
Hudson Senior Center and the Columbia County Office for the Aging

Free, unbiased Medicare counselling is through the Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street (518-828-4258), which lists HIICAP among its services and also offers meals. How we work from Hudson
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Hudson residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Hudson plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including Columbia Memorial and any specialists in Albany.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
I live in Hudson and see specialists in Albany. Which plan list do I get?
Columbia County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. Hudson is in Columbia County; Catskill, across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, is in Greene County, which has its own list. What matters for your Albany specialists is whether they are in the directory of the Columbia County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.
Do Medicare Advantage plans in Hudson include Columbia Memorial?
It depends on the plan. Columbia Memorial Health, at 71 Prospect Avenue, is part of the Albany Med Health System, and the system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, separate from Albany Medical Center's. Those lists name carriers, not individual plans, so I check the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory before we compare anything else.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Hudson?
CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays from 8 to 4 except holidays. Rides are limited, so call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked. The county's Office for the Aging also arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677). When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Hudson residents?
The Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson, (518) 828-4258, lists HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, among its services. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Hudson clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Hudson residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
