Medicare agent for Copake
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Copake residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Copake, with Copake Falls, Copake Lake, Craryville, the Hamlet of Copake and West Copake, is in Columbia County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, wherever your doctors are.
Where Copake residents get care
- Copake Rapid Care, at 283 Mountain View Road (518-329-3902), walk-in urgent care for all ages on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 to 7, with no appointment needed. It is part of the Albany Med Health System, and Columbia Memorial Health lists it among its Rapid Care locations.
- Columbia Memorial Health, at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), part of the Albany Med Health System. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list, separate from Albany Medical Center's.
- Specialists in Albany. If you see specialists in Albany, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts. The Albany Medical Center page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check it and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Copake
- One town, one plan list. The Town of Copake, with its Town Hall at 230 Mountain View Road, has community pages for Copake Falls, Copake Lake, Craryville, the Hamlet of Copake and West Copake. The Town is in Columbia County, and so is all of the land in the 12516 and 12517 ZIP areas, so Copake addresses see the Columbia County plan list: 48 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays 8 to 4 except holidays; call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked, because rides are limited. The county's Office for the Aging arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677). The County Bus lists Copake on a route with Ancramdale, Germantown, Hudson, Greenport, Claverack and Philmont, running Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with a different route each day; it will go up to three-quarters of a mile off route for people who can't reach a stop if you call Johnston Transportation by 4 p.m. the day before (518-672-4901). If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover two common cases.
The Copake Recreation Center and the Columbia County Office for the Aging
The county's Office for the Aging runs a nutrition site at the Copake Recreation Center, 305 Mountain View Road, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 1:30 (518-567-7881). It is open to Columbia County residents 60 and over, with no charge for the meal; voluntary contributions are welcome. Medicare counselling is through the Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson (518-828-4258), which lists HIICAP, New York's Medicare counselling program, among its services. More on the Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help and EPIC. The HIICAP page has every county office. Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501.

How we work from Copake
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Copake residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call; the comparison comes to you in writing and we go through it together by video or phone.
What a Copake plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including Columbia Memorial and any specialists in Albany.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Which Medicare plans can I get in Copake?
Columbia County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. The Town of Copake is in Columbia County, and the Census Bureau puts all of the land in the 12516 (Copake) and 12517 (Copake Falls) ZIP areas in Columbia County, so a hamlet address and a lake address see the same list. What differs from one person to the next is which plans include your doctors and price your prescriptions well.
I use Copake Rapid Care. Does that tell me which plan to pick?
Not on its own. Copake Rapid Care, at 283 Mountain View Road (518-329-3902), is walk-in urgent care in the Albany Med Health System, and Columbia Memorial Health lists it among its Rapid Care locations. Your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to matter more. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list, separate from Albany Medical Center's, so I check each of them by name in the plan's directory for the year.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Copake?
CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays from 8 to 4 except holidays. Rides are limited, so call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked. The county's Office for the Aging arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677). The County Bus lists Copake on a route that also serves Ancramdale, Germantown, Hudson, Greenport, Claverack and Philmont on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, a different route each day; call Johnston Transportation by 4 p.m. the day before at 518-672-4901.
Where is Medicare counselling for Copake residents?
The Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson, (518) 828-4258, lists HIICAP, New York's Medicare counselling program, among its services, and HIICAP has a statewide toll-free line, 1-800-701-0501, that routes you to your county's program. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Copake clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Copake residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
