Medicare agent for Kinderhook and Valatie
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Kinderhook and Valatie residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Kinderhook is in northern Columbia County, with its Town Hall in Valatie, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, wherever your doctors are.
Where Kinderhook and Valatie residents get care
- On Route 9 in Valatie. The Albany Med Health System runs Valatie Family Care (primary care, weekdays 7:30 to 4:30, 518-758-1766), Rapid Care Valatie (every day 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., no appointment needed, 518-758-4300) and the Valatie Blood Draw Center (weekdays 6:30 to 2, 518-758-4310), all in the Ocean State Job Lot Plaza at 2827 Route 9.
- Columbia Memorial Health, at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), part of the same health system. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, by carrier, separate from Albany Medical Center's.
- Specialists in Albany. If you see specialists in Albany, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts. The Albany Medical Center page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check it, the Valatie practices and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Kinderhook and Valatie
- One plan list for both villages. The Town of Kinderhook's Town Hall is at 3211 Church Street in Valatie, and the Village of Kinderhook's is at 6 Chatham Street. Both see the Columbia County plan list: 48 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Schodack, on the Albany Commuter's way to Albany, is in Rensselaer County (57 plans), so neighbors who use the same doctors can be choosing from different lists. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays 8 to 4 except holidays; call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked, because rides are limited. The county's Office for the Aging arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677). Columbia County's Albany Commuter runs Monday to Friday through Kinderhook and Valatie to Albany (Johnston Transportation, 518-672-4901), and will go up to three-quarters of a mile off route if you call by 4 p.m. the day before. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Kinderhook (12106) and Valatie (12184). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.
Village senior resources and the Columbia County Office for the Aging
The Village of Valatie lists the Valatie Senior Center, open Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 to 1:30 and Friday from 10 to 2:30. The Village of Kinderhook's senior resources page lists the Kinderhook Memorial Library (518-758-6192), Meals on Wheels through the Office for the Aging (518-828-4258) and the Valatie Rescue Squad's Mobile Integrated Health Program (518-309-8200). Free, unbiased Medicare counselling is through the Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson (518-828-4258), which lists HIICAP among its services. How we work from Kinderhook and Valatie
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Kinderhook and Valatie residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Kinderhook plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Valatie practices, Columbia Memorial and any specialists in Albany.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

I live in Kinderhook and see doctors in Albany. Which plan list do I get?
Columbia County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. Kinderhook and Valatie are in Columbia County; Schodack, which the County's Albany Commuter bus passes through on its way to Albany, is in Rensselaer County and has its own list. What matters for your Albany doctors is whether they are in the directory of the Columbia County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.
Where is primary and urgent care in Valatie?
In the Ocean State Job Lot Plaza at 2827 Route 9. Valatie Family Care, part of the Albany Med Health System, offers primary care weekdays from 7:30 to 4:30 (518-758-1766). Rapid Care Valatie is open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no appointment needed (518-758-4300), and the Valatie Blood Draw Center is open weekday mornings (518-758-4310). The system's hospital nearby is Columbia Memorial in Hudson, and its accepted-insurance page keeps separate lists for Columbia Memorial Hospital and Albany Medical Center, so I check each hospital and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Kinderhook or Valatie?
CARTS, run by the Healthcare Consortium, gives Columbia County residents free door-to-door rides to non-emergency medical appointments, weekdays from 8 to 4 except holidays. Rides are limited, so call 518-822-8020 as soon as the appointment is booked. The county's Office for the Aging arranges rides for residents 60 and over who can't drive (518-567-3677). Columbia County's Albany Commuter bus runs Monday to Friday through Kinderhook and Valatie to Albany (Johnston Transportation, 518-672-4901). When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Kinderhook and Valatie residents?
The Columbia County Office for the Aging at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson, (518) 828-4258, lists HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, among its services. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Kinderhook clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Kinderhook and Valatie residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
