Medigap rates in the Albany region
The New York Department of Financial Services publishes every carrier's community rate for every plan letter, by region. Here is the Albany region — ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which covers Saratoga, Albany, Schenectady and Rensselaer counties — for the three plans almost everyone chooses between.
In the Albany rating region, Plan G runs from about $305 to $667 a month depending on carrier, Plan N from about $269 to $482, and high-deductible Plan G from about $60 to $90 — for the same standardized coverage, because New York community-rates Medigap and every carrier must accept you in any month. The table below is the state's own comparison, in effect July 1, 2026.
Monthly premiums, Albany region
Premiums in effect July 1, 2026, from the DFS comparison table. Same plan letter, same coverage, different price. Where a carrier shows two figures, DFS lists both for the region and your ZIP code decides which applies.

| Aetna Life Insurance | $305.19 | — | — |
| Bankers Conseco | $666.60 | $60.25 | $415.40 |
| EmblemHealth Plan, Inc. | $394.69 or $417.27 | $61.83 or $65.36 | $287.51 or $303.96 |

"—" means the carrier doesn't file that plan for the Albany region. Plans A, B, D, K and L, and Plans C and F for people eligible before 2020, are in the full DFS table. High-deductible Plan G carries a $2,950 yearly deductible in 2026 before the plan pays.
How to read it
- Plan G pays everything Original Medicare leaves except the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026). The spread here is more than $360 a month for identical coverage.
- Plan N is Plan G minus up-to-$20 office and up-to-$50 ER copays, and without excess-charge coverage — which New York caps at 5% anyway. The G vs N guide works through whether the copays are worth the saving.
- High-deductible Plan G is Plan G behind a $2,950 deductible. At $60–$90 a month it suits people who want catastrophic protection and can absorb a bad year.
- Community rating means these are the rates for everyone — a 65-year-old and an 85-year-old pay the same. There is no age band to grow into.
- Any month, no health questions. New York requires every carrier to accept you year-round. If your carrier's rate climbs, the table shows what a move would save; the premium-increase guide covers the switch.
Add Part B and Part D
Whatever you pick here sits on top of the Part B premium ($202.90 a month in 2026 for most people) and a separate Part D plan. The lowest Plan N here plus Part B comes to about $472 a month before drug coverage; the lowest Plan G, about $508. Compare that to a $0-premium Advantage plan with a $9,250 in-network maximum out-of-pocket and ask which year you'd rather budget for.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Why does the same Plan G cost $305 at one carrier and $667 at another?
Because the coverage is fixed by law and the price isn't. A Plan G pays exactly the same benefits from any carrier, so the premium difference is the carrier's own pricing, claims experience and overhead. That's why the comparison is worth an hour: you are choosing a price and a company's rate history, not a different product.
Is the cheapest carrier the right one?
Often, but look at two more things: how the carrier's rate has moved over the last few years (a low introductory rate can climb), and how it handles claims and service. In New York you can move to another carrier in any month with no health questions, so a wrong choice is fixable, but nobody enjoys switching every year.
Why are two premiums shown for some carriers?
The DFS table lists more than one premium where a carrier prices parts of the region differently. Which one applies depends on your exact ZIP code; the DFS look-up tool, or a quote, resolves it.
Are these the carriers you sell?
Not all of them. I quote the ones I'm appointed with and show you where they fall in this table. If a carrier I don't represent is meaningfully cheaper for you, I'll say so — you can buy Medigap directly from any of them.
How often do these change?
DFS republishes the comparison several times a year as carriers file rate changes; the most recent one is linked under Sources. I update this page when a new table appears. Your own premium changes only when your carrier files a new community rate, and you'll get written notice.
Want a note when enrollment opens?
One email a few days before each Medicare enrollment window opens — Annual Enrollment in October, Advantage Open Enrollment in January — with the dates and what to have ready. Nothing else, ever; reply "stop" to come off the list.
