Where Saratoga Springs residents get care

• Saratoga Hospital, 211 Church Street (518-587-3222) — the only acute-care hospital in Saratoga County, a member of the Albany Med Health System since 2017, with more than twenty locations including the Wilton campus and the Saratoga Medical Park at Malta, 6 Medical Park Drive, where Malta Med Emergent Care is open around the clock (518-289-2024). If you use it, this is the first network question.
• Albany Medical Center — forty minutes south, in the same health system. If you see specialists there, remember that being in the same health system does not guarantee the same insurance contracts, so I check both; the system's 2026 Medicare Advantage list, including the Humana change at Saratoga Hospital, is on which plans Capital Region hospitals accept, and every plan sold in Saratoga County is placed against it on the Saratoga Hospital page (Warren and Washington County plans on the Glens Falls Hospital page).
• Glens Falls Hospital — north of the city, also an Albany Med Health System member, and closer for some Wilton and Greenfield residents on the county line.
• The Wesley Community, 131 Lawrence Street — independent and assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing on one campus. If a move there is in the plan, we look at how each Medicare option handles skilled nursing and rehabilitation stays.

What's particular about Saratoga Springs

• Moving here to retire. If you're moving here from downstate or out of state, moving into Saratoga County is a Special Enrollment Period — you can pick a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan for your new address, and in New York you can buy a Medigap policy at any time with no health questions.
• Second homes and travel. If you spend winters away, check how each option handles routine care there. An HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis. A PPO may cover out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost; check the plan's rules for the provider and service first. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.
• Income. If your income is above the IRMAA thresholds, the surcharge is based on your tax return from two years earlier and can be appealed when income drops at retirement. I can help you prepare that appeal.
• Plenty of noise. Every October the mailbox fills up with plan advertising; the plan with the most advertising is not a signal of anything.
