Where Malta and Ballston Spa residents get care

• Saratoga Hospital, Malta campus — the medical park at 6 Medical Park Drive, off Northway Exit 12: Malta Med Emergent Care around the clock, Saratoga Hospital Medical Group primary care and specialties, outpatient surgery, therapy and infusion. Admissions go to Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, a member of the Albany Med Health System, with Albany Medical Center as the referral hospital for the complex cases.
• Albany specialists — Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's are half an hour south, and much of the county's cardiology, oncology and orthopedics happens there. Albany Med Health System covers Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center under one accepted-carrier list; St. Peter's has its own.
• The Schenectady side — for Ballston Lake and Burnt Hills, Ellis Hospital in Schenectady is closer than Saratoga Springs, and Ellis contracts with carriers on its own.

Saratoga Hospital's own list is the useful one here: it names the Medicare Advantage carriers it accepts and, for one of them, says non-emergency services are no longer taken. The 2026 lists for all three systems are on one page; every plan sold in Saratoga County this year is on the county plan list.

What's particular about Malta and Ballston Spa

• Working past 65 is the norm. GlobalFoundries in Malta, the state in Albany, the hospitals and the school districts keep a lot of residents on employer coverage at 65. The question is whether to take Part B now or later, whether a health savings account is still being funded, and how to time the Part B start so nothing lapses. Medicare while working past 65 covers it; the enrollment check shows which window is open today.
• New subdivisions, new-to-the-county doctors. Many Malta and Round Lake households moved up from Albany County or downstate in the last fifteen years and kept their Albany doctors. Saratoga County plans are a different list from Albany County's, and the Albany specialist has to be in the specific plan's directory; that check comes first.
• State retirees in the village. Ballston Spa is the county seat, and county and state retirees with NYSHIP or county plans are thick on the ground. Whether an individual Medicare plan adds to that coverage or cancels it is the first question, before premiums, before extras; the NYSHIP retirees guide covers the state side.
• Snowbirds. Plenty of Malta retirees spend January to March in Florida or the Carolinas. An HMO built around one local hospital won't travel; that's a Medigap or PPO conversation, and in New York Medigap can be bought in any month.

4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
