Medicare agent for Old Forge and the Town of Webb

Old Forge is in the Town of Webb, in Herkimer County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from. Primary care in town is at the Town of Webb Health Center, and the Town points residents to Wynn Hospital in Utica for 24-hour emergency care. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Old Forge residents by phone, WhatsApp and video.

Where Old Forge residents get care

Primary care in town and the hospital the Town points to belong to the same health system, the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), which lists Herkimer County in the area it serves:

  • Town of Webb Health Center, 114 South Shore Road (physician appointments 315-369-6619). MVHS runs the medical office, with primary care for established patients, in a building the Town owns, and there is a lab in the same building (315-369-3960). The Town says it is not an urgent care center: call before you go, and check the hours when you do.
  • Wynn Hospital, 111 Hospital Drive in Utica (315-917-9966), is where the Town of Webb sends residents for 24-hour emergency care.
  • The Town's service directory lists the Old Forge Library as an approved 211 telehealth site, with free Wi-Fi on the property, if you need somewhere to join a video visit with a doctor.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab after a stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year, and a plan that lists one health system does not automatically list another. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Wynn has no page of its own here; I check the health center's doctors, the hospital and each specialist by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Old Forge

  • A Herkimer County address. Old Forge is in the Town of Webb, which is in Herkimer County, so it sees the Herkimer County plan list: 33 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Plans are filed by where you live, so seeing doctors in Utica doesn't change your list; it changes which directories we have to check.
  • Getting to Utica. The Herkimer County Office for the Aging drives residents 60 and older to appointments by reservation, but it stays within the county and says it does not go to Utica or Cooperstown. Book at least a week ahead, or two to three weeks for a medical appointment (315-867-1121). If your specialists are in Utica, how you get there is part of choosing the plan.
  • SHARP, the Town's senior program. The Town of Webb runs the Senior Health, Activities and Recreation Program for seniors 62 and older: free, every Thursday from 10 to 2 at 139 Park Avenue, with lunch, and a ride arranged where possible if you ask a few days ahead.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Old Forge

What an Old Forge plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Town of Webb Health Center, Wynn Hospital and any specialists in Utica.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

I live in Old Forge. Which Medicare plan list do I get?

Herkimer County's. The Town of Webb, which takes in Old Forge, is in Herkimer County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. Seeing doctors in Utica doesn't change your list; it changes which directories we have to check.

Where do Old Forge residents go for a doctor or a hospital?

The Town of Webb Health Center at 114 South Shore Road (315-369-6619) is a Mohawk Valley Health System medical office in a building the Town owns, with primary care for established patients and a lab. The Town says it is not an urgent care center, so call before you go. For 24-hour emergency care, the Town points residents to Wynn Hospital, the MVHS hospital at 111 Hospital Drive in Utica (315-917-9966). Before you enroll, I check the health center's doctors, Wynn and any specialists by name in the plan's own directory.

I don't drive. Can anyone take me to appointments?

The Herkimer County Office for the Aging gives rides to residents 60 and older, by reservation (315-867-1121), but it stays within Herkimer County and does not go to Utica or Cooperstown; it asks for at least a week's notice, two to three weeks for a medical appointment. The Town's SHARP program for seniors 62 and older will try to arrange a ride to its own weekly meeting with a few days' notice. If your specialists are in Utica, we look at how you would get there before we choose a plan.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Town of Webb residents?

The Herkimer County Office for the Aging, at 109 Mary Street, Suite 1101, in Herkimer, (315) 867-1121, contracts with Catholic Charities of Herkimer County to provide HIICAP, New York's free, unbiased Medicare counselling program, by appointment at (315) 894-9917. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Old Forge clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Old Forge residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
