Medicare agent for Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown is the Essex County seat, and its hospital, University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital on Park Street, provides 24-hour emergency services. The county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Elizabethtown residents by phone, WhatsApp and video.

Where Elizabethtown residents get care

Elizabethtown's hospital is in town, and Adirondack Health, a separate health system, runs the hospital in Saranac Lake:

  • University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, 75 Park Street (518-873-6377) — a critical access hospital with 24-hour emergency services and an inpatient unit; its services include primary care, rehabilitation therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, infusion and round-the-clock radiology. It has a second campus at 101 Adirondack Drive in Ticonderoga (518-585-3700), also with a 24-hour emergency department, and community-based primary care centers in the region. Its system, University of Vermont Health, also includes Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh.
  • Adirondack Health — Adirondack Medical Center, 2233 State Route 86 in Saranac Lake (518-891-4141), with 24-hour emergency care. The Lake Placid page covers its health centers.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any rehab after a hospital stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Neither Elizabethtown Community Hospital nor Adirondack Health has a page of its own on this site, so I check the hospital, its primary care center and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory for Essex County.

What's particular about Elizabethtown

  • Its own county's list. The Town of Elizabethtown, New Russia included, is in Essex County, so everyone here sees the Essex County plan list: 22 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. The list follows the county your home is in, not the hospital you use.
  • The county offices are in town. Elizabethtown is the county seat, and the Essex County Office for the Aging is here, (518) 873-3695: Medicare, Part D and EPIC information, NY Connects for long-term care questions, and medical rides for residents 60 and over.
  • Getting to appointments. The Office for the Aging arranges medical rides for residents 60 and over with volunteer drivers; ask as early as you can. Essex County Public Transportation runs Lewis–Elizabethtown–Lake Placid, Lewis–Elizabethtown and Champlain South routes on weekdays, the last one on to Ticonderoga ((800) 914-9266). If the bus is how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those routes reach.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Elizabethtown (12932). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, county, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Elizabethtown residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. Nothing is decided on a first call; the comparison comes to you in writing and we go through it together by video or phone.

What an Elizabethtown plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including Elizabethtown Community Hospital, its primary care center and, if you use them, the Ticonderoga campus, Plattsburgh or Saranac Lake.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Elizabethtown include Elizabethtown Community Hospital?

It depends on the plan. University of Vermont Health – Elizabethtown Community Hospital, at 75 Park Street (518-873-6377), is a critical access hospital with locations in Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga, and it runs community-based primary care centers in the region. It has no page of its own on this site, so before we compare anything else I check the hospital, its primary care center and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory for Essex County.

I live in New Russia. Which plan list do I get?

Essex County's, the same as the rest of the Town. The Town of Elizabethtown, New Russia included, is in Essex County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. If you see doctors outside the county, what matters is whether they are in the directory of the Essex County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Elizabethtown?

The Essex County Office for the Aging arranges medical transportation for county residents 60 and over, with volunteer drivers; ask as early as you can, on (518) 873-3695. Essex County Public Transportation runs Lewis–Elizabethtown–Lake Placid, Lewis–Elizabethtown and Champlain South routes, the last one on to Westport, Port Henry and Ticonderoga, on weekdays, not holidays, and says all its buses are accessible; call (800) 914-9266. Medicaid members may qualify for free non-emergency medical rides, booked through MAS at 866-883-7865.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Elizabethtown residents?

The Essex County Office for the Aging is in Elizabethtown, (518) 873-3695, and says its outreach staff give accurate and unbiased information on Medicare, Part D, EPIC, Medicaid and long-term care insurance. HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling program, has a statewide line, 1-800-701-0501, which routes you to your county's program. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; the county office is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.

Do you meet Elizabethtown clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Elizabethtown residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A review covers the same ground that way: your doctors, your prescriptions, any retiree or VA coverage, and the plans sold at your address.
