Medicare agent for Oneonta

Oneonta is in Otsego County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from. A.O. Fox Hospital is in the city and Bassett Medical Center is in Cooperstown, both in the Bassett Healthcare Network. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Oneonta residents by phone, WhatsApp and video.

Where Oneonta residents get care

Oneonta's hospital, the FoxCare Center and the network's hub in Cooperstown all belong to the Bassett Healthcare Network:

  • A.O. Fox Hospital, at 1 Norton Avenue (607-432-2000), with an emergency department and inpatient and outpatient services.
  • FoxCare Center, at 1 FoxCare Drive, part of A.O. Fox Hospital and less than two miles from it. It houses primary and specialty care practices, lab and imaging, and an outpatient pharmacy (directory 607-432-2000).
  • Bassett Medical Center, at 1 Atwell Road in Cooperstown (607-547-3456), the network's hub, with 24-hour emergency and trauma care.

Bassett's insurance page says its practitioners take part in most available health plans, but that some plans offer specific products that leave Bassett practitioners out. It lists carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, so a carrier's name is not the check; the plan's own directory is. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab after a stay all have to be in that directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. None of these hospitals has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Oneonta

  • City or town, the same list. The City of Oneonta and the Town of Oneonta are separate municipalities, both in Otsego County, so both see the Otsego County plan list: 28 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Plans are filed by county, so an address across a county line can see a different list even when the doctors are the same.
  • Getting to appointments. The Otsego County Office for the Aging arranges non-emergency rides to and from pre-scheduled medical appointments, and rides to pick up prescriptions (607-547-4232; it depends on availability). It is free, with a suggested donation, and no one is turned away for not paying. Oneonta Public Transit runs city routes and a Cooperstown route whose stops include Fox Care and Bassett; some trips are request-only, riders 62 and over pay a reduced fare, and OPT takes ADA paratransit applications (607-432-7100). If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Oneonta Medicare facts for 2027

How we work from Oneonta

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Oneonta residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What an Oneonta plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they use: A.O. Fox or Bassett Medical Center, and any specialists outside the Bassett network.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Oneonta include A.O. Fox Hospital and Bassett?

A.O. Fox Hospital, the FoxCare Center and Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown are all part of the Bassett Healthcare Network. Bassett's participating-insurance page says its practitioners take part in most available health plans, but that some plans offer specific products that don't include them. Carriers are not plans, so before you enroll I check the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory.

I live in the Town of Oneonta, not the city. Is my plan list different?

No. The City of Oneonta and the Town of Oneonta are separate municipalities, but both are in Otsego County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county. Either address sees the Otsego County plan list.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Oneonta?

The Otsego County Office for the Aging arranges non-emergency rides to and from pre-scheduled medical appointments, and rides to pick up prescriptions; call 607-547-4232 to see if a ride is available. It is free, with a suggested donation, and no one is turned away for not paying. Oneonta Public Transit's Cooperstown route lists stops at Fox Care and Bassett, and OPT has a reduced fare for riders 62 and over (607-432-7100). When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Oneonta residents?

The Otsego County Office for the Aging, at the Meadows Office Complex, 140 County Highway 33W, Suite 5, in Cooperstown, (607) 547-4232, offers HIICAP, New York's free Medicare counselling; the county says there is no charge for the service. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Oneonta clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Oneonta residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
