Medicare agent for Richfield Springs

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Richfield Springs residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Village of Richfield Springs lies in the Town of Richfield, in Otsego County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from. Before anything else, I check how a plan treats the Bassett health center on State Route 28 and the doctors you already see.

Where Richfield Springs residents get care

The village's Bassett health center and the two hospitals listed here belong to one health system, the Bassett Healthcare Network:

  • Bassett Health Center Richfield Springs, at 8550 State Route 28 (315-858-0040, weekdays 8 to 5), with primary care for all ages, including elder care, chronic condition care, routine blood tests and screenings, immunizations and prescriptions. Bassett's page lists the center's medical home recognition under the name Little Falls Hospital – Richfield Springs Health Center.
  • Little Falls Hospital, 140 Burwell Street in Little Falls (315-823-1000), a 25-bed hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, short-term rehabilitation and dialysis.
  • Bassett Medical Center, 1 Atwell Road in Cooperstown (607-547-3456), a 180-bed teaching hospital with 24-hour emergency and trauma care, cancer and heart care and most medical and surgical specialties, with the outpatient Bassett Clinic on the same campus.

Bassett's insurance page says its practitioners take part in most of the health plans in the region, but that some plans offer specific products that leave Bassett practitioners out. It lists carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, so a carrier's name is not the check; the plan's own directory is. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab after a stay all have to be in that directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. None of these hospitals has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Richfield Springs

  • One village, one town, one list. The state's county profile lists the Village of Richfield Springs, whose offices are on Main Street (US Route 20), under the Town of Richfield. Either way the address is in Otsego County, so it sees the Otsego County plan list: 28 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Plans are filed by county, so an address across a county line can see a different list even when the doctors are the same.
  • One name or two. The village health center appears on Bassett's page both as Bassett Health Center Richfield Springs and, for its medical home recognition, as a Little Falls Hospital site. When I check a plan's directory, I search under both names and confirm the doctor you actually see there.
  • Getting to appointments. The Otsego County Office for the Aging arranges non-emergency rides to and from pre-scheduled medical appointments, and rides to pick up prescriptions (607-547-4232; it depends on availability). There is no charge, contributions are suggested, and no one is turned away for not paying. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

How we work from Richfield Springs

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Richfield Springs residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Richfield Springs plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Bassett health center on State Route 28 and the hospital your doctors use: Little Falls Hospital or Bassett Medical Center.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help and EPIC.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

I live in the Town of Richfield, outside the village. Is my plan list different?

No. The state's county profile lists the Village of Richfield Springs under the Town of Richfield, and both are in Otsego County. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so any of those addresses sees the Otsego County plan list. An address across a county line sees that county's list instead, even when the doctors are the same.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Richfield Springs include the Bassett health center?

Bassett Health Center Richfield Springs, at 8550 State Route 28, is part of the Bassett Healthcare Network, along with Little Falls Hospital and Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Bassett's own page lists the center's medical home recognition under the name Little Falls Hospital – Richfield Springs Health Center, so I search a plan's directory under both names. Bassett's insurance page says its practitioners take part in most of the health plans in the region, but that some plans offer specific products that leave them out. A carrier is not a plan, so before you enroll I check the center, the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Richfield Springs?

The Otsego County Office for the Aging arranges non-emergency rides to and from pre-scheduled medical appointments, and rides to pick up prescriptions; call 607-547-4232 to see if a ride is available. There is no charge, contributions are suggested, and no one is turned away for not paying. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Richfield Springs residents?

The Otsego County Office for the Aging, at the Meadows Office Complex, 140 County Highway 33W, Suite 5, in Cooperstown, (607) 547-4232, offers HIICAP, New York's free Medicare counselling; the county says there is no charge for the service. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Richfield Springs clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Richfield Springs residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
