Medicare agent for Sharon Springs

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Sharon Springs residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Village of Sharon Springs and the Town of Sharon around it are in Schoharie County, which has its own list of Medicare Advantage plans. Before anything else, I check how a plan treats the Bassett Health Center on Route 20, Cobleskill Regional Hospital and the doctors you already see.

Where Sharon Springs residents get care

  • Bassett Health Center Sharon Springs, 591-1 State Route 20 (518-284-2223), a Bassett primary care center open weekdays 8 to 5. Its services include family medicine and physicals, chronic condition care, elder care, cancer screenings and routine blood tests.
  • Cobleskill Regional Hospital, 178 Grandview Drive in Cobleskill (518-254-3456), a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Bassett Healthcare Network. Its emergency department is open around the clock (518-254-3337), and it has inpatient care for general medical conditions and a short-term rehabilitation unit.
  • Bassett Medical Center, 1 Atwell Road in Cooperstown (607-547-3456), Bassett's 180-bed teaching hospital.

Being in the same network does not make it the same check: I look up the health center, each hospital and each doctor separately. Bassett's participating-insurance page lists carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, and says some health plans offer products where Bassett practitioners are not included. With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital and any rehab stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. If you also see specialists in Schenectady or Albany, the pages for Ellis Hospital and Albany Medical Center show which carriers each one lists; I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Sharon Springs

  • The Schoharie County list, wherever your doctors are. The Village of Sharon Springs and the rest of the Town of Sharon see the Schoharie County plan list: 34 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Plans follow where you live, so a Cooperstown specialist or a Schenectady cardiologist has to be in the directory of the Schoharie County plan you choose.
  • Getting to appointments. Schoharie County Public Transportation (518-234-0952) is open to every county resident. Route 23 goes to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with an on-call stop at the Sharon Springs Post Office. Route 5 covers the Town of Sharon on Tuesdays by reservation, with trips into the Cobleskill area that include the Cobleskill hospital and clinic; book by noon the day before. There is no weekend dispatch. The Office for the Aging helps with bus fares by selling tokens to people 60 and over, and runs a limited volunteer medical-ride program for older adults who can't get there any other way.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours. The Medicare Supplement page explains how the standard plans compare.
  • Social Security. Social Security's office locator assigns the 13459 ZIP code to its Schenectady office at One Broadway Center. Medicare Part A and B sign-up runs through Social Security.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. Whether an individual plan adds to retiree or employer coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover those two cases.

How we work from Sharon Springs

What a Sharon Springs plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Bassett Health Center on Route 20, Cobleskill Regional, Bassett in Cooperstown and any specialists in Schenectady or Albany.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Sharon Springs include the Bassett Health Center and Cobleskill Regional Hospital?

It depends on the plan. The Bassett Health Center in Sharon Springs and Cobleskill Regional Hospital are both part of the Bassett Healthcare Network. Bassett's participating-insurance page has a Medicare Advantage section, strongly advises patients to verify benefits directly with their plan, and says some health plans offer products where Bassett practitioners are not included. So before you enroll I check the health center, the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's own directory.

My primary care is on Route 20 but my specialists are in Cooperstown. Is that one check or several?

Several. The Bassett Health Center at 591-1 State Route 20 is a primary care site, Cobleskill Regional Hospital is a hospital, and Bassett Medical Center at 1 Atwell Road in Cooperstown is a separate hospital. I look up each one by name in the plan's directory, along with every specialist you see. Your plan list stays Schoharie County's, because plans follow where you live, not where your doctors are.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Sharon Springs?

Schoharie County Public Transportation (518-234-0952) is open to all county residents. Route 23 runs to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with an on-call stop at the Sharon Springs Post Office. There is no weekend dispatch. The Office for the Aging sells bus tokens to people 60 and over and has a limited volunteer medical-ride program for older adults with no other way to get there (518-295-2001).

Where is free Medicare counselling for Sharon Springs residents?

The Schoharie County Office for the Aging, at 113 Park Place, Suite 3, in Schoharie, (518) 295-2001, has a HIICAP coordinator for New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling, including help with Medicare forms, medical bills and Part D enrollment. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501.

Do you meet Sharon Springs clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Sharon Springs residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
