Medicare agent for Whitehall
Whitehall is a town and village in Washington County on Lake Champlain and the Champlain Canal, where Route 4 crosses into Vermont. Its medical center is a Glens Falls Hospital practice and the hospital is in Glens Falls, so the first thing a Medicare plan has to fit is Glens Falls Hospital, and for some people, doctors across the state line.
Where Whitehall residents get care
- Glens Falls Hospital's local practices. The Whitehall Medical Center at 65 Poultney Street (518-499-2444) offers family medicine and primary care on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Granville Medical Center at 79 North Street in Granville (518-642-0612) has primary care on weekdays, with lab and imaging by appointment. Both are Glens Falls Hospital practices; the hospital itself is at 100 Park Street in Glens Falls (518-926-1000), a member of the Albany Med Health System with an emergency department open around the clock. Albany Medical Center, at 43 New Scotland Avenue in Albany (518-262-3125), is in the same system, but a shared system does not mean every practice has the same plan contracts.
- Hudson Headwaters. Hudson Headwaters Health Network lists its Whitehall mobile health stop as closed; its Washington County health centers are at 48 East Street in Fort Edward and 1830 County Route 64 in Salem.
- Vermont. If you use doctors or a hospital across the state line, that decides more than anything else. Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider that accepts Medicare; a Medicare Advantage plan works only as far as its network, so each Vermont provider has to be checked by name.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, out-of-network care is generally covered only for emergencies, out-of-area urgent care and temporary dialysis; a PPO generally lets you go out of network at a higher cost. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network at all. The Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Washington County against the hospital's own list, and the carriers for every Capital Region hospital are side by side on one page; I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Whitehall
- On the road to Vermont. Route 4 runs south from Whitehall through Fort Ann, Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, and at Whitehall it turns east and crosses into Vermont. Which way you drive for care is the first question, and if the answer is east, a network plan needs a closer look.
- A part-week practice in town. The Whitehall Medical Center lists Tuesday and Wednesday hours, and the Granville practice is open weekdays. If you see a provider at both, or a specialist further away, each one has to be in the plan's directory.
- Town and village, one county list. The Town and Village of Whitehall share offices at 57 Skenesborough Drive, and the 12887 ZIP area lies entirely in Washington County, which has 44 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Whitehall (12887). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, county, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Meeting in Whitehall
My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I come to Whitehall clients at home, in the town or the village, or we talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and which state they're in, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Whitehall plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory: the Whitehall or Granville practice, Glens Falls Hospital, and any Vermont providers.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Washington County. Nearby: Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, Greenwich and Cambridge and Glens Falls.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
My doctor is at the Whitehall Medical Center. Which plans include it?
The Whitehall Medical Center on Poultney Street is a Glens Falls Hospital practice in the Albany Med Health System, which publishes an accepted-insurance list of carriers, not plans. A carrier on that list does not mean every plan from that carrier is in network, so I check the practice, your own provider and Glens Falls Hospital by name in each plan's directory for the year. The Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Washington County against the hospital's list.
My doctors are in Vermont. Can a New York Medicare plan cover them?
Original Medicare with a Medigap policy covers any provider in the country that accepts Medicare, including Vermont. A Medicare Advantage plan depends on its network: an HMO generally covers out-of-network care only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis, and a PPO generally lets you go out of network at a higher cost. Check each Vermont doctor and hospital by name in the plan's own directory before you enroll.
Do the Town and Village of Whitehall have the same Medicare plans?
Yes. Both are in Washington County, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county. The Census Bureau puts all of the land in the 12887 ZIP area in Washington County, so every Whitehall address sees the same Washington County plan list. What differs from one person to the next is which plans include your doctors and price your prescriptions well.
Where is HIICAP Medicare counselling for Whitehall residents?
HIICAP, New York's Medicare counselling program, has trained counsellors in local offices for the aging. In Washington County that is the Office for the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 383 Broadway in Fort Edward, (518) 746-2420, and the statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Whitehall clients in person?
Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I come to you at home in the town or village of Whitehall. We can also talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. No fee for Medicare plan help.
