Medicare agent for Cairo
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Cairo residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Cairo is in Greene County, and the county decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, whether your doctors are in town, in Catskill, in Hudson or in Albany.
Where Cairo residents get care
- Two Columbia Memorial practices in Cairo. Cairo Family Care, 4383 Route 23 (518-622-8525), a primary care medical home open weekdays 7:30 to 4:30, and Main Street Family Care – Cairo, 130 Main Street (518-622-3200), a primary care practice open weekdays from 7:30. Columbia Memorial Health lists both among its physician practices.
- Columbia Memorial Health, part of the Albany Med Health System, with care centers across Columbia and Greene counties. Its hospital is at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), in Columbia County. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, separate from Albany Medical Center's.
- Doctors in Albany. The Town describes Cairo as about 35 miles south of Albany. If your doctors are there, check them separately: being in the same health system does not mean the same plan contracts. The Albany Medical Center page sets out that hospital's own accepted-insurance list.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and, after a hospital stay, the rehab or nursing facility all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check the hospital, the Cairo practices and each of your doctors by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Cairo
- Your doctors can be in another county. Cairo sees the Greene County plan list: 49 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Hudson, where Columbia Memorial's hospital is, is in Columbia County (48 plans), and Albany is in Albany County (57 plans). A Greene County plan has to list the Hudson hospital, and any Albany doctors, for them to be in network. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. Greene County Transit's Route 706 runs Monday through Friday from Catskill through Cairo, stopping on Main Street and at the South Cairo post office, and stops at the medical offices on Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Route 709 also stops in Cairo on Fridays. Request-only stops need a call to Greene County Transit the day before, during business hours. Riders 60 and over ride fully subsidized after registering with the Greene County Department of Human Services (518-719-3555), which also lists homebound medical transportation and a door-to-door shopping bus.
- The ambulance and the pharmacy. The Town of Cairo runs its own ambulance department, with an administrator at the Town (518-622-3120, ext. 131), and its bills go through an outside billing service named on the Town's page. Medicare Advantage plans set their own cost for ambulance trips, so I show it for each plan. The county's directory of services lists pharmacies in Cairo; I price your prescriptions at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree coverage first. State, school district and other retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.
The Acra senior center and the Greene County Department for the Aging
The Town of Cairo's directory lists the Acra Senior Center (518-622-9898), and the county lists Acra among its senior nutrition sites, with congregate meals and transportation to certain centers for lunch. Free, unbiased Medicare counselling is through the Greene County Department for the Aging at 411 Main Street in Catskill (518-719-3555), which offers HIICAP by appointment and has information on EPIC, the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help. The HIICAP page has every county office. Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501.

How we work from Cairo
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Cairo residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions and pharmacy, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Cairo plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the Cairo practices, Columbia Memorial's hospital in Hudson and any doctors in Catskill or Albany.
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.
No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Greene County. Nearby: Catskill · Coxsackie · Windham · Hunter and Tannersville.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
My doctor is at one of the family care practices in Cairo. Do Medicare Advantage plans include it?
It depends on the plan. Cairo Family Care, at 4383 Route 23, and Main Street Family Care – Cairo, at 130 Main Street, are primary care practices that Columbia Memorial Health lists among its physician practices, part of the Albany Med Health System. The system's accepted-insurance page gives Columbia Memorial Hospital its own list of participating plans, separate from Albany Medical Center's. I check the practice, the hospital its doctors use and each of your other doctors by name in the specific plan's directory.
I live in Cairo and see doctors in Albany. Which plan list do I get?
Greene County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. Cairo is in Greene County; Albany is in Albany County, and Hudson, where Columbia Memorial's hospital is, is in Columbia County. Each has its own list. What matters for your Albany or Hudson doctors is whether they are in the directory of the Greene County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.
I don't drive. Can I get from Cairo to appointments in Catskill?
Greene County Transit's Route 706 runs Monday through Friday from Catskill through Cairo, with stops on Main Street and at the South Cairo post office, and stops at the medical offices on Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Route 709 also stops in Cairo on Fridays. Some stops are on request only, and for those you call Greene County Transit the day before, during business hours. Riders 60 and over ride fully subsidized after registering with the Greene County Department of Human Services (518-719-3555). When you rely on the bus, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Cairo residents?
The Greene County Department for the Aging, at 411 Main Street in Catskill, (518) 719-3555, offers HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling, to Greene County residents with Medicare. Appointments are required, so call ahead. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Cairo clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Cairo residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes, and a full review works the same way over video or phone.
