Medicare agent for Bolton Landing

Bolton Landing sits on the western shore of Lake George, and the Town of Bolton is in Warren County, so it shares the county's Medicare Advantage list. The plan has to fit three places: the Bolton Health Center, Glens Falls Hospital, and a pharmacy outside the hamlet, because the hamlet has none.

Where Bolton Landing residents get care

  • Bolton Health Center, 11 Cross Street, Bolton Landing (518-644-9471) — part of Hudson Headwaters Health Network, a nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center. It has family medicine, gynecology, lab services, behavioral health, nutrition counselling and diabetes education, and clinical pharmacy services, open weekdays 8 to 4 with Saturday mornings in summer. Hudson Headwaters' Warrensburg Health Center at 3767 Main Street adds urgent care.
  • Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls (518-926-1000) — a member of the Albany Med Health System. The Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Warren County against the hospital's own list.
  • Specialists further south. Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center are in the same health system as Glens Falls Hospital, but being in the same system does not mean the same insurance contracts. If you see a specialist in Saratoga Springs or Albany, I check that office separately.

Hudson Headwaters' insurance page lists Medicare and the carriers it works with, but it names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans. With Medicare Advantage, the health center, the hospital and each specialist all have to be in the specific plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. The carriers each Capital Region hospital lists are on one page.

What's particular about Bolton Landing

  • No pharmacy in the hamlet. Warren County's profiles of Bolton Landing and of the hamlet of Bolton to the south list no pharmacy in either. Part D and Medicare Advantage plans can charge different amounts at different pharmacies, so I price your prescriptions at the one you actually use, and at the plan's mail-order price where it has one.
  • Getting there without driving. Warren County's free errand van serves Bolton, for people 60 and over and veterans of any age, for pharmacy visits, grocery shopping and other errands, and the Office for the Aging lists volunteer rides to medical appointments. Both are booked through the Office for the Aging at (518) 761-6347. If that's how you reach the doctor, the doctors in a plan's network have to be ones you can get to.
  • One county list for the whole town. Bolton Landing, the hamlet of Bolton and the rest of the Town of Bolton are in Warren County, so every address in town sees the same Medicare Advantage list: 45 plans for 2027. If you live here part of the year, the plan list follows where you live, and a move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Bolton Landing (12814). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Winters away and retiree coverage. If you spend part of the year somewhere warmer, an HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers at a higher cost, and Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare. If you have retiree coverage, how it coordinates with Medicare comes first; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

What a Bolton Landing plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory: the Bolton Health Center and your provider there, Glens Falls Hospital, and any specialists in Saratoga Springs or Albany.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use and by mail where the plan offers it.
  3. Retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Bolton Landing include Glens Falls Hospital?

Glens Falls Hospital is a member of the Albany Med Health System and follows the system's accepted-insurance list. That list names carriers, so a carrier on it doesn't by itself mean a specific plan includes the hospital. I check the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the plan's own directory, and the Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Warren County against the hospital's list.

My doctor is at the Bolton Health Center. How do I know a plan includes it?

The Bolton Health Center on Cross Street is part of Hudson Headwaters Health Network. Hudson Headwaters' insurance page lists Medicare and the carriers it participates with, but it names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, and says to call the carrier if your plan isn't listed. Before you enroll, I check the health center and your provider by name in the specific plan's directory for the year.

There's no pharmacy in Bolton Landing. How do you price my prescriptions?

Warren County's profile of the hamlet lists no pharmacy, so I price your prescriptions at the pharmacy you actually use outside it, and at the plan's mail-order price where the plan offers one. Part D and Medicare Advantage plans can charge different amounts at different pharmacies. If you're 60 or over, or a veteran, the county's free errand van serves Bolton for pharmacy and grocery trips; call the Office for the Aging at (518) 761-6347 to schedule.

Where is free Medicare counselling near Bolton Landing?

The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling, from the Human Services Building at 1340 State Route 9 (mailing address Lake George), (518) 761-6347, office hours 8 to 4. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.

Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I come up the Northway to meet people at home in Bolton Landing and the rest of the Town of Bolton. We can also talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. No fee for Medicare plan help.
