Medicare agent for Chestertown and the Town of Chester
The Town of Chester, in northern Warren County, has two main settlements, Chestertown and Pottersville, and shares Warren County's Medicare Advantage list. A plan here has to fit the Chester-Horicon Health Center on Route 9, Glens Falls Hospital, and the pharmacy you use, which for Pottersville means one outside the hamlet.
Where Chester residents get care
- Chester-Horicon Health Center, 6223 State Route 9, Chestertown (518-494-2761) — part of Hudson Headwaters Health Network. It has family medicine, gynecology, podiatry, lab draws, behavioral health, nutrition counselling and diabetes education, and clinical pharmacy services, open weekdays 8 to 4:30 and Saturday mornings, with an on-call provider by phone after hours. It does not list urgent care; Hudson Headwaters lists urgent care at its Warrensburg Health Center, 3767 Main Street in Warrensburg.
- Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls (518-926-1000) — a member of the Albany Med Health System. The Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Warren County against the hospital's own list.
- Specialists further south. Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center are in the same health system as Glens Falls Hospital, but being in the same system does not mean the same insurance contracts. If you see a specialist in Saratoga Springs or Albany, I check that office separately.
Hudson Headwaters' insurance page lists Medicare and the carriers it works with, but it names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans. With Medicare Advantage, the health center, the hospital and each specialist all have to be in the specific plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. The carriers each Capital Region hospital lists are on one page.
What's particular about Chester
- Two hamlets, different services. Warren County's hamlet profiles list a grocery store, a pharmacy and the health center in Chestertown, and no pharmacy, no grocery store and no medical services in Pottersville, a crossroads on Route 9 for travelers from North Creek and Schroon Lake. Part D and Medicare Advantage plans can charge different amounts at different pharmacies, so I price your prescriptions at the one you actually use, and at the plan's mail-order price where it has one.
- Urgent care and the hospital are priced separately. The health center in Chestertown lists primary care, not urgent care. A Medicare Advantage plan charges separately for urgent care, an emergency room visit, an ambulance and a hospital stay, so I show those costs for each plan, not just the premium.
- Getting there without driving. Warren County's free errand van serves Chester, for people 60 and over and veterans of any age, for pharmacy visits, grocery shopping and other errands, and the Office for the Aging lists volunteer rides to medical appointments. Both are booked through the Office for the Aging at (518) 761-6347.
- One county list for the whole town. Chestertown, Pottersville and the rest of the Town of Chester are in Warren County, so every address in town sees the same Medicare Advantage list: 45 plans for 2027. If you live here part of the year, the plan list follows where you live, and a move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Chestertown (12817). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
- Winters away and retiree coverage. If you spend part of the year somewhere warmer, an HMO generally covers care outside its network only for emergencies, urgent care away from home and temporary out-of-area dialysis; a PPO may cover out-of-network providers at a higher cost, and Original Medicare with Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare. If you have retiree coverage, how it coordinates with Medicare comes first; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501. The same number books the county's free errand van for people 60 and over and veterans in Chester, and the volunteer rides to medical appointments. The Town of Chester's offices are at the Chester Municipal Center, 6307 State Route 9 in Chestertown.

My doctor is at the Chester-Horicon Health Center. How do I know a plan includes it?
The Chester-Horicon Health Center at 6223 State Route 9 in Chestertown is part of Hudson Headwaters Health Network. Hudson Headwaters' insurance page lists Medicare and the carriers it participates with, but it names carriers, not individual Medicare Advantage plans, and says to call the carrier if your plan isn't listed. Before you enroll, I check the health center and your provider by name in the specific plan's directory for the year.
Do Medicare Advantage plans in Chester include Glens Falls Hospital?
Glens Falls Hospital is a member of the Albany Med Health System and follows the system's accepted-insurance list. That list names carriers, so a carrier on it doesn't by itself mean a specific plan includes the hospital. I check the hospital and each of your doctors by name in the plan's own directory, and the Glens Falls Hospital page places every plan sold in Warren County against the hospital's list.
I live in Pottersville. How do you price my prescriptions?
Warren County's profile of Pottersville lists no pharmacy and no medical services in the hamlet; its profile of Chestertown lists a pharmacy on the hamlet's main street. I price your prescriptions at the pharmacy you actually use, and at the plan's mail-order price where the plan offers one, because Part D and Medicare Advantage plans can charge different amounts at different pharmacies. If you're 60 or over, or a veteran, the county's free errand van serves Chester for pharmacy and grocery trips; call the Office for the Aging at (518) 761-6347.
Where is free Medicare counselling near Chestertown?
The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging runs HIICAP, New York's free Medicare counselling program, from the Human Services Building at 1340 State Route 9 (mailing address Lake George), (518) 761-6347, office hours 8 to 4. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet clients in Chestertown and Pottersville?
Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I come up the Northway to meet people at home in Chestertown, Pottersville and the rest of the Town of Chester. We can also talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. No fee for Medicare plan help.
