Medicare agent for the Town of Brunswick

The Town of Brunswick, in Rensselaer County, has a Troy mailing address for its own Town Hall, its Community Center in Center Brunswick off Route 7, the town's historical society in Eagle Mills, and Poestenkill on its southern side. Medicare choices here turn on the hospitals in Troy and Albany, the two health systems that run them, and the Rensselaer County plan list that every Brunswick address shares with the city.

Where Brunswick residents get care

The hospitals in Troy and Albany belong to two health systems, and a Medicare plan has to fit the one your doctors use:

  • St. Peter's Health Partners — Samaritan Hospital at 2215 Burdett Avenue in Troy (518-271-3300) and St. Peter's Hospital at 315 South Manning Boulevard in Albany (518-525-1550). The two follow the same accepted-carrier list.
  • Albany Med Health System — Albany Medical Center at 43 New Scotland Avenue in Albany (518-262-3125), which contracts with carriers separately from St. Peter's.

With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to all have to be in the plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Every plan sold in Rensselaer County is placed against Samaritan's list on its own page, with St. Peter's and Albany Medical Center alongside, and the carriers each Capital Region hospital lists are on one page. Those lists name carriers, not plans, so I still check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Brunswick

  • Troy on the envelope, Rensselaer County on the plan list. Brunswick's own Town Hall, at 336 Town Office Road, has a Troy, NY 12180 address, and the Census Bureau puts all of the 12180 ZIP area in Rensselaer County. The town and the City of Troy are both in the county, so a Brunswick address sees the same Rensselaer County list as the city: 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027.
  • Albany doctors, Rensselaer plans. Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's are in Albany County, which has its own list (57 plans for 2027). You still choose from Rensselaer County's plans; what matters is whether a plan on that list includes the Albany doctors you see. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • A town ambulance, billed to your coverage. Brunswick has had dedicated ambulance service since January 1, 2026, with Advanced Life Support crews stationed in the town. A special district tax pays for it, together with payments for patient care and transports from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers. How a plan handles ambulance and emergency care is one of the lines I put side by side.
  • County rides to appointments. The Rensselaer County Department for the Aging runs medical transportation for seniors who live in the county, Monday to Friday, booked at 518-270-2734 between 8 and 3:30, to appointments in the county or a neighbouring county, with one wheelchair van. Riders must get in and out of the van on their own, and anyone who needs help into the building brings an escort. If that's how you get to the doctor, a plan's in-network doctors have to be somewhere the van goes.
  • Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in the Troy 12180 ZIP code the Town Hall uses. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
  • Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Meeting in Brunswick

My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9. I meet Brunswick clients there, at home anywhere in the town, or by phone, WhatsApp or video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Brunswick plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including which hospital they admit to: Samaritan, St. Peter's or Albany Medical Center.
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

No fee for Medicare plan help. Request a review, or read the wider Medicare page for all of Rensselaer County. Nearby: Troy, Averill Park, Sand Lake and Poestenkill and East Greenbush and North Greenbush.

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

My mail says Troy, but I live in the Town of Brunswick. Which plans can I get?

Rensselaer County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, not by post office name. The Town of Brunswick is in Rensselaer County, and so is the City of Troy; the town's own Town Hall has a Troy, NY 12180 address, and the Census Bureau puts all of the 12180 ZIP area in Rensselaer County. You and your neighbours in the city choose from the same plan list.

Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Brunswick use?

Depending on your doctors you'll be admitted to Samaritan in Troy or St. Peter's in Albany, both St. Peter's Health Partners, or to Albany Medical Center. St. Peter's and Samaritan share one accepted-carrier list and Albany Medical Center has its own. Those lists name carriers, not plans, so I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory for the year.

Brunswick has its own ambulance service now. Does my Medicare coverage come into it?

It can. The town's page says it has had dedicated ambulance service since January 1, 2026, with paramedic-level (Advanced Life Support) crews stationed in the town. The service is paid for by a special district tax on all properties in the town, supplemented by payments for patient care and transports from Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers and people who pay themselves. So a trip is billed to whatever coverage you have, and how a plan handles ambulance and emergency care is part of what I compare.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Brunswick residents?

The Rensselaer County Department for the Aging, part of Unified Family Services at 99 Troy Road, Suite 306, in East Greenbush (518-270-2730), runs HIICAP. Its counselors cover Medicare, Medicaid, the Medicare Savings Program, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, EPIC and employer or retiree coverage, and the county says nothing they provide is an endorsement of any insurer. I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.

Do you meet Brunswick clients in person?

Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I come to you at home anywhere in the Town of Brunswick when that's easier. We can also talk by phone, WhatsApp or video. No fee for Medicare plan help.
