Where Troy residents get care

• Samaritan Hospital, 2215 Burdett Avenue — the city's hospital, part of St. Peter's Health Partners within Trinity Health, with affiliated primary-care and specialty practices across Troy, Brunswick and East Greenbush.
• Samaritan Hospital – St. Mary's Campus, 1300 Massachusetts Avenue — the former St. Mary's Hospital, now an outpatient campus including cancer care.
• Albany Medical Center — across the river, used by many Troy residents for specialists and complex care, and contracted with carriers separately from St. Peter's.
• Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany — for veterans, with VA coverage that works alongside Medicare rather than replacing it.

The river is the network fault line. A plan built around St. Peter's Health Partners covers Samaritan and its practices well; whether it also covers your Albany Med specialist is a year-by-year question. When doctors are split, a PPO or Original Medicare with a Medigap policy removes the problem.

What's particular about the City of Troy

• Help paying for Medicare. Troy has more residents eligible for New York's Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help and EPIC than almost anywhere in the region — and most haven't applied. No asset test, higher income limits since 2023, and the MSP alone is worth more than $2,400 a year.
• Dual eligibles. For people with Medicare and Medicaid, several Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans operate in Rensselaer County. Benefits differ by plan; I'll tell you which ones I can offer and what you'd qualify for.
• Retirees from RPI, HVCC, the schools and the state. Each comes with retiree coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Bring the paperwork — it can rule options in or out before we look at a single premium.
• Older housing, older residents. Lansingburgh and South Troy have many long-time homeowners aging in place. If home care or a rehabilitation stay is a realistic prospect, we look at how each option handles skilled nursing and home health, not just doctor visits.
