Where East Greenbush residents get care

• St. Peter's Health Partners — primary and urgent care on Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush, and the Samaritan Hospital campus in Troy fifteen minutes north. Admissions go to St. Peter's Hospital in Albany or to Samaritan; both follow the St. Peter's carrier list.
• Albany Med Health System — the North Greenbush Specialty Care Center at 101 Jordan Road in Troy (ENT, neurology, neurosurgery and others), and Albany Medical Center itself ten minutes across the Dunn Memorial Bridge. Albany Med publishes its own carrier list.
• Down Route 9 — for Schodack and Nassau, Columbia Memorial in Hudson is part of the Albany Med Health System too, so it follows the Albany Med list.

The Medicare Advantage problem I see most on this side of the river is the assumption that "Albany" is one network. It's two, and a plan that includes the Columbia Turnpike practice may not include the Jordan Road specialist. The 2026 lists of Advantage carriers Albany Med, St. Peter's and Ellis each accept are on one page; every plan sold in Rensselaer County this year is on the county plan list.

What's particular about East Greenbush

• State retirees, mostly. East Greenbush and North Greenbush are commuter towns for the state offices in Albany, and NYSHIP is the most common retiree coverage here. Whether an individual Medicare plan adds to that coverage or cancels it is the first question, before premiums, before extras; the NYSHIP retirees guide covers it.
• Working past 65. Regeneron in Rensselaer, the state, the hospitals and the school districts keep a lot of residents on employer coverage at 65. Whether to delay Part B, and how to avoid the penalty, is in Medicare while working past 65; the enrollment check shows which window is open today.
• Rensselaer County pricing. Plans are filed by county, so East Greenbush sees the Rensselaer County line-up, not Albany County's, even though the doctors are the same. The Medigap premiums on the rates page are the Albany-region figures, which cover Rensselaer County.
• Rural south county. Schodack, Nassau and Stephentown behave like rural New York: fewer providers, longer drives, more reason to favor plans without network restrictions. That's a Medigap or PPO conversation.
