Medicare agent for Fishkill and East Fishkill

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Fishkill and East Fishkill residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Fishkill, the Village of Fishkill and the Town of East Fishkill are separate municipalities, all in Dutchess County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, in Hopewell Junction and Stormville as much as on Main Street.

Where Fishkill and East Fishkill residents get care

The hospitals in Poughkeepsie and in Carmel, across the Putnam County line, belong to two health systems that contract with Medicare Advantage carriers separately:

  • Northwell Health — Vassar Brothers Medical Center, at 45 Reade Place in Poughkeepsie (845-454-8500), and Northwell Putnam Hospital, at 670 Stoneleigh Avenue in Carmel, Putnam County (845-279-5711). Northwell also lists Northwell Health Primary Care & Pediatrics at Fishkill, 200 Westage Business Center Drive, Suite 240 (845-896-8784), and Northwell Health Primary Care at Hopewell Junction, 942 Route 376, Suite 16, which has a Wappingers Falls address (845-223-8080). Both see patients on weekdays, in person or by telehealth, for physicals, screenings, medication management and chronic conditions.
  • Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) — MidHudson Regional Hospital, at 241 North Road in Poughkeepsie (845-483-5000).

A plan can include one system and not the other. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any rehab after a stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. None of these hospitals has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Fishkill and East Fishkill

  • Three municipalities, one plan list. The Town of Fishkill, the Village of Fishkill and the Town of East Fishkill, with its hamlets of Arthursburg, Fishkill Plains, Gayhead, Hopewell Junction, Peckslip and Stormville, all see the Dutchess County plan list: 42 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. The Town of East Fishkill gives Putnam County as its southern boundary, and Putnam County has its own list, so Putnam Hospital and the doctors around it have to be in the directory of the Dutchess County plan you pick. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • Getting to appointments. Dutchess County Public Transit runs Route A from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Fishkill, seven days a week, and Route F from Beacon to Hopewell Junction, Monday to Saturday. Dial-A-Ride is curb-to-curb on weekdays, 8:15 to 4:15, for registered riders whose trip starts in the Town of Fishkill, the Town of East Fishkill or four other Dutchess municipalities, and Flex covers every municipality in the county; both are booked 30 days to 3 days ahead (845-473-8424). The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree, employer and VA coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, people still working at 65 and veterans with VA care have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Veterans can register for free rides to medical appointments through the county's Office for Veterans Affairs (845-486-2060), and Castle Point (845-831-2000) takes veterans to appointments at VA hospitals. Whether an individual plan adds to other coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees, Medicare while working past 65 and Medicare and VA benefits explain each one.

The Town of Fishkill Recreation Center, 793 Route 52 ((845) 831-3371), has a senior center with membership by application and proof of residency, luncheons, trips and educational workshops that include Medicare 101. How we work from Fishkill

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Fishkill and East Fishkill residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Fishkill plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they admit to: Vassar Brothers or Putnam (Northwell), or MidHudson Regional (WMCHealth).
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Fishkill include Vassar Brothers and MidHudson Regional?

It depends on the plan, and the two Poughkeepsie hospitals are in different health systems. Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Reade Place is now part of Northwell Health, which also runs primary care practices with Fishkill and Hopewell Junction names; MidHudson Regional Hospital on North Road is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). A plan can list one system and not the other, so I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Dutchess County.

I live in East Fishkill and my hospital is Putnam Hospital in Carmel. Which plan list do I get?

Dutchess County's. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county and follow where you live, not where your doctors are. The Town of East Fishkill gives Putnam County as its southern boundary, and Carmel, where Northwell Putnam Hospital is, is a Putnam County town with its own plan list. What matters is whether Putnam Hospital and your doctors there are in the directory of the Dutchess County plan you choose, and I check each one by name.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Fishkill or East Fishkill?

Dutchess County Public Transit's Route A runs from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Fishkill, and Route F from Beacon to Hopewell Junction. Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb service for registered residents with a trip starting in the Town of Fishkill or the Town of East Fishkill, among others, weekdays 8:15 to 4:15, booked 30 days to 3 days ahead at (845) 473-8424. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Fishkill residents?

The Dutchess County Office for the Aging, at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, runs HIICAP, which gives free, objective counselling on Medicare. Its HIICAP hotline is 845-486-2566; the main office line is (845) 486-2555. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Fishkill clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Fishkill residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
