Medicare agent for Red Hook and Tivoli
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Red Hook residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of Red Hook, the Village of Red Hook and the Village of Tivoli are separate municipalities, all in Dutchess County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, in either village and in hamlets such as Annandale and Barrytown.
Where Red Hook residents get care
The hospital in Rhinebeck and the two in Poughkeepsie belong to two different health systems, each contracting with Medicare Advantage carriers separately:
- Northern Dutchess Hospital, at 6511 Springbrook Avenue in Rhinebeck (845-876-3001), an 84-bed hospital now part of Northwell Health. Its emergency department is open around the clock (845-871-3440), and its Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center runs the acute inpatient rehabilitation program, for stroke, brain and spinal cord injury, orthopedic trauma and similar conditions. On the same campus, Northwell Health Primary Care at Rhinebeck is in Suite 1001 (845-876-4432; weekdays 8 to 5), in person or by telehealth.
- Vassar Brothers Medical Center, at 45 Reade Place in Poughkeepsie (845-454-8500), also part of Northwell Health.
- MidHudson Regional Hospital, at 241 North Road in Poughkeepsie (845-483-5000), part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) and a stop on Route C.
A plan can include one of these systems and not the other. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any inpatient rehab after a stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. None of these hospitals has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Red Hook
- A town, two villages, one plan list. The Town of Red Hook has the Hudson along its western edge, and its history covers the Village of Red Hook, the Village of Tivoli, formed in 1872 from Upper Red Hook and Tivoli, and Annandale and Barrytown. All of them see the Dutchess County plan list: 42 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Columbia County, which the Town's history places just across the line at Clermont, has its own list (48 plans), so a doctor there has to be in the directory of the Dutchess County plan you pick. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Getting to appointments. Dutchess County Public Transit's Route C runs Monday to Saturday from Poughkeepsie to Tivoli via MidHudson Regional Hospital, Hyde Park, Rhinebeck and Red Hook. Its Flex service is curb-to-curb, on weekdays, anywhere in the county, for registered riders who book 30 days to 3 days ahead (845-473-8424); the county's Dial-A-Ride does not list Red Hook. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. If you rely on rides like these, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere they reach.
- Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
- Retiree, employer and VA coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, people still working at 65 and veterans with VA care have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Veterans can register for free rides to medical appointments through the county's Office for Veterans Affairs (845-486-2060). Whether an individual plan adds to other coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees, Medicare while working past 65 and Medicare and VA benefits explain each one.
Red Hook Friendship Center and the Dutchess County Office for the Aging
The county's Red Hook Friendship Center is at the Red Hook Community Center, 59 Fisk Street (845-475-1129), open weekdays 10 to 2, with a meal and social activities that can include "Navigating Medicare" presentations. The Dutchess County Office for the Aging is at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, (845) 486-2555. It runs HIICAP, free, objective Medicare counselling, on a hotline at 845-486-2566, and holds workshops that cover the Medicare Savings Programs; its pages also cover EPIC. The HIICAP page has every county office. Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501.

How we work from Red Hook
My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Red Hook and Tivoli residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.
What a Red Hook plan review covers
- Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they admit to: Northern Dutchess or Vassar Brothers (Northwell), or MidHudson Regional (WMCHealth).
- Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
- Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
- A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
Do Medicare Advantage plans in Red Hook include Northern Dutchess Hospital?
It depends on the plan. Northern Dutchess Hospital, at 6511 Springbrook Avenue in Rhinebeck, is now part of Northwell Health, as is Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). A plan can list one system and not the other, so I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Dutchess County.
I live in Tivoli. Is my plan list different from the Town of Red Hook's?
No. Tivoli and the Village of Red Hook are villages with their own governments, and the Town of Red Hook's site links to both, but all three are in Dutchess County. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so a Tivoli address, a Red Hook village address and an address in Annandale or Barrytown all see the Dutchess County plan list. Columbia County, where the Town's history places Clermont just across the county line, has its own.
I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Red Hook?
Dutchess County Public Transit's Route C runs Monday to Saturday from Poughkeepsie to Tivoli via MidHudson Regional Hospital, Hyde Park, Rhinebeck and Red Hook. Its Flex service is curb-to-curb on weekdays in every municipality in the county for registered riders, booked 30 days to 3 days ahead at (845) 473-8424. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other transportation for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Red Hook residents?
The Dutchess County Office for the Aging, at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, runs HIICAP, which gives free, objective counselling on Medicare. Its HIICAP hotline is 845-486-2566; the main office line is (845) 486-2555. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. The county's Red Hook Friendship Center, at 59 Fisk Street, also hosts activities that can include Medicare presentations.
Do you meet Red Hook clients in person?
No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Red Hook residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
