Medicare agent for LaGrange and LaGrangeville

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with LaGrange residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Town of LaGrange, whose Town Hall is on Stringham Road in LaGrangeville, is in Dutchess County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from.

Where LaGrange residents get care

The two hospitals in Poughkeepsie belong to two health systems that contract with Medicare Advantage carriers separately, and one of them has a practice in LaGrangeville:

  • Northwell Health — Vassar Brothers Medical Center, at 45 Reade Place in Poughkeepsie (845-454-8500). In the town itself, Northwell Health Primary Care at LaGrangeville is at 1100 Route 55, Suite 101 (845-473-0974; weekdays 8 to 5), for checkups, screenings, vaccinations and ongoing care for conditions such as high blood pressure, in person or by telehealth.
  • Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) — MidHudson Regional Hospital, at 241 North Road in Poughkeepsie (845-483-5000).

A plan can include one system and not the other. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any rehab after a stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Neither hospital has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about LaGrange

  • A LaGrangeville address, one plan list. The Town of LaGrange's Town Hall is at 120 Stringham Road in LaGrangeville, between Route 55 and Todd Hill Road, but the Town of Union Vale's Town Hall has a LaGrangeville address too. Both towns are in Dutchess County, so both see the Dutchess County plan list: 42 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • Getting to appointments. Dutchess County Public Transit's Route E runs from Poughkeepsie to Pawling via LaGrange, with weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules. Flex is curb-to-curb, on weekdays, anywhere in the county, for registered riders who book 30 days to 3 days ahead (845-473-8424); the county's Dial-A-Ride does not list LaGrange. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. If you rely on rides like these, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere they reach.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree, employer and VA coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, people still working at 65 and veterans with VA care have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Veterans can register for free rides to medical appointments through the county's Office for Veterans Affairs (845-486-2060). Whether an individual plan adds to other coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees, Medicare while working past 65 and Medicare and VA benefits explain each one.

The Senior Drop-In Center and the Dutchess County Office for the Aging

The Town's Parks & Recreation department runs the LaGrange Senior Drop-In Center at 1168 Route 55, open most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 1:30 and free for LaGrange residents 55 and over once you register, online or at the Recreation Office in Town Hall (845-452-1972). It also runs senior socials and bus trips. The county lists no Friendship Center in LaGrange; the Town's senior page points to the county's Tri-Town Friendship Center on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley (845-275-8565), where activities can include "Navigating Medicare" presentations. The Dutchess County Office for the Aging is at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, (845) 486-2555. It runs HIICAP, free, objective Medicare counselling, on a hotline at 845-486-2566, and holds workshops that cover the Medicare Savings Programs; its pages also cover EPIC. The HIICAP page has every county office. Statewide HIICAP line: 1-800-701-0501.

How we work from LaGrange

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with LaGrange residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a LaGrange plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they admit to: Vassar Brothers (Northwell) or MidHudson Regional (WMCHealth).
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in LaGrange include Vassar Brothers and MidHudson Regional?

It depends on the plan, and the two Poughkeepsie hospitals are in different health systems. Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Reade Place is now part of Northwell Health, which also runs a primary care practice at 1100 Route 55 in LaGrangeville; MidHudson Regional Hospital on North Road is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). A plan can list one system and not the other, so I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Dutchess County.

My mailing address says LaGrangeville. Which plan list do I get?

The Dutchess County list. The Town of LaGrange's Town Hall has a LaGrangeville address, and so does the Town of Union Vale's, at 249 Duncan Road, so the post-office name alone doesn't tell you which town you live in. Both towns are in Dutchess County, though, and Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so either way you see the same plan list.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from LaGrange?

Dutchess County Public Transit's Route E runs from Poughkeepsie to Pawling via LaGrange, with weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules. Its Flex service is curb-to-curb on weekdays in every municipality in the county for registered riders, booked 30 days to 3 days ahead at (845) 473-8424; the county's Dial-A-Ride does not list LaGrange. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for LaGrange residents?

The Dutchess County Office for the Aging, at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, runs HIICAP, which gives free, objective counselling on Medicare. Its HIICAP hotline is 845-486-2566; the main office line is (845) 486-2555. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet LaGrange clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with LaGrange residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
