Medicare agent for Wappingers Falls and Wappinger

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Wappingers Falls residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The Village of Wappingers Falls and the Town of Wappinger are separate municipalities, both in Dutchess County, and that decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose from, in the village, the town and its hamlets alike.

Where Wappingers Falls residents get care

Poughkeepsie's two hospitals belong to two health systems that contract with Medicare Advantage carriers separately:

  • Northwell Health — Vassar Brothers Medical Center, at 45 Reade Place in Poughkeepsie (845-454-8500). Northwell also lists Northwell Health Primary Care at Hopewell Junction at 942 Route 376, Suite 16, with a Wappingers Falls address (845-223-8080; weekdays 8 to 5), for physicals, screenings and chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, in person or by telehealth.
  • Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) — MidHudson Regional Hospital, at 241 North Road in Poughkeepsie (845-483-5000).

A plan can include one system and not the other. With an HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists, the hospital they admit to and any rehab after a stay all have to be in the plan's directory for the year. Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Neither hospital has a page of its own here; I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.

What's particular about Wappingers Falls

  • Village, town and hamlets, one plan list. The Town of Wappinger takes in about three-quarters of the Village of Wappingers Falls, which spans both banks of Wappinger Creek, plus hamlets such as Chelsea, Hughsonville, Myers Corners and New Hackensack. All of it sees the Dutchess County plan list: 42 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
  • Getting to appointments. Dutchess County Public Transit runs Route A from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Fishkill and Route B from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Beacon, by way of Route 9D and the Castle Point VA Center. Dial-A-Ride is curb-to-curb on weekdays, 8:15 to 4:15, for registered residents of the Town of Wappinger and five other Dutchess municipalities, booked 30 days to 3 days ahead (845-473-8424), and ADA paratransit serves eligible riders within three-quarters of a mile of a bus route. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. If that's how you get around, the plan's doctors have to be somewhere those rides reach.
  • The Town ambulance district. The Town of Wappinger says its Town-wide Ambulance District covers the cost of an ambulance beyond what available insurance pays, for Town residents. Ambulance cost-sharing differs between Original Medicare and each plan, so it is worth knowing when we compare.
  • Medigap. In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions. Premiums are set by region, and I check the Department of Financial Services' published rates for yours.
  • Retiree, employer and VA coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, people still working at 65 and veterans with VA care have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Veterans can register for a limited number of free rides to medical appointments through the county's Office for Veterans Affairs (845-486-2060). Whether an individual plan adds to other coverage or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees, Medicare while working past 65 and Medicare and VA benefits explain each one.

How we work from Wappingers Falls

My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Wappingers Falls residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. A first call takes about fifteen minutes: your ZIP code, your doctors and where they are, your prescriptions, and any retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage. Nothing is decided on a first call.

What a Wappingers Falls plan review covers

  1. Every doctor you see, checked against each plan's current directory, including the hospital they admit to: Vassar Brothers (Northwell) or MidHudson Regional (WMCHealth).
  2. Prescriptions priced through each plan's formulary for the full year, at the pharmacy you actually use.
  3. Retiree, employer, VA or Medicaid coverage and exactly how each option would interact with it, plus a screening for the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help.
  4. A written comparison with total yearly cost, gone through together by video or phone, and a plain statement of whether your current coverage should be left alone.

Questions

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask before they call.

Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.

Do Medicare Advantage plans in Wappingers Falls include Vassar Brothers and MidHudson Regional?

It depends on the plan, and the two Poughkeepsie hospitals are in different health systems. Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Reade Place is now part of Northwell Health, which also runs a primary care practice on Route 376 with a Wappingers Falls address; MidHudson Regional Hospital on North Road is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). A plan can list one system and not the other, so I check the hospital you'd use and each of your doctors by name in the specific plan's directory for Dutchess County.

I live in the village, not the town. Is my plan list different?

No. The Village of Wappingers Falls and the Town of Wappinger are separate municipalities, and the Town says it takes in about three-quarters of the village, but all of it is in Dutchess County. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, so a village address, a town address and an address in a hamlet such as Hughsonville or New Hackensack all see the Dutchess County plan list.

I don't drive. How do I get to medical appointments from Wappingers Falls?

Dutchess County Public Transit's Route A runs from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Fishkill, and Route B from Poughkeepsie through Wappingers Falls to Beacon by way of Route 9D and the Castle Point VA Center. Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb service open to residents of the Town of Wappinger, among others, weekdays 8:15 to 4:15, once you have registered; rides are booked 30 days to 3 days ahead at (845) 473-8424. The Office for the Aging (845-486-2555) registers older adults who are not on Medicaid and have no other way to get there for a limited number of free rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the county. When you rely on rides like these, I check that a plan's doctors are somewhere you can reach.

Where is free Medicare counselling for Wappingers Falls residents?

The Dutchess County Office for the Aging, at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie, runs HIICAP, which gives free, objective counselling on Medicare. Its HIICAP hotline is 845-486-2566; the main office line is (845) 486-2555. The statewide HIICAP line is 1-800-701-0501. It's a good second opinion on anything I recommend.

Do you meet Wappingers Falls clients in person?

No. My office is in Clifton Park, and I work with Wappingers Falls residents by phone, WhatsApp and video. The comparison and the enrollment work the same way, and I stay your contact afterwards.
