Medicare agent for Ravena and Coeymans
Ravena is a village in the southeast part of the Town of Coeymans, an Albany County town along the Hudson that also takes in the river hamlet of Coeymans, once Coeymans Landing. Its 12143 ZIP code reaches over the line into Greene County, so the first things a Medicare plan has to fit here are which county you live in and which health system your doctors belong to.
Where Ravena and Coeymans residents get care
The hospitals in Albany and Hudson belong to two health systems, and a Medicare plan has to fit the one your doctors use:
- St. Peter's Health Partners — St. Peter's Hospital at 315 South Manning Boulevard in Albany (518-525-1550), which shares one accepted-carrier list with Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
- Albany Med Health System — Albany Medical Center at 43 New Scotland Avenue in Albany (518-262-3125), and Columbia Memorial at 71 Prospect Avenue in Hudson (518-828-7601), which has primary and specialty care centers across Columbia and Greene counties, among them Lafayette Family Care in Coxsackie and practices in Cairo and Catskill. Albany Medical Center and Columbia Memorial each have their own section on the system's accepted-insurance page, so being in the same system does not mean the same plan contracts.
With a Medicare Advantage HMO, your primary-care doctor, your specialists and the hospital they admit to all have to be in the plan's directory for the year; Original Medicare with a Medigap policy has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare works. Every plan sold in Albany County is placed against the hospital lists on the pages for Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's, and the carriers each Capital Region hospital lists are on one page. Columbia Memorial has no page of its own here; I check it, and each of your doctors, by name in the plan's directory.
What's particular about Ravena and Coeymans
- A village inside a town, one county list. The Village of Ravena sits in the southeast part of the Town of Coeymans, and the town's own offices on Route 9W use a Ravena address. The village and the river hamlet of Coeymans are both in Albany County, so their addresses see the Albany County list: 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027.
- A ZIP code that crosses into Greene County. The Census Bureau puts most of the 12143 ZIP area in Albany County and part of it in Greene County, which has its own list of 49 plans. Plans follow the county of your street address, not the town name on your mail, so a Ravena mailing address on the Greene County side gets Greene County's plans. A move out of your plan's service area, or to an address with new plan options, opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs for two full months after the move.
- Rides to appointments. Albany County's Department for Aging arranges rides through CDTA ACCESS (518-437-5161) for residents 60 and over who have no other way to get there, with dialysis and medical appointments first. Book at least 48 hours ahead, and have a back-up, since the county says a ride is not certain. If that's how you reach the doctor, a plan's in-network doctors have to be somewhere you can get to.
- Medigap is priced like Albany. New York's Department of Financial Services compares Medigap premiums by region, and its Albany region covers ZIP codes starting 120–123 and 128–129, which takes in Ravena (12143) and Coeymans (12045). In New York you can buy or switch Medigap in any month without health questions; the current premiums for the region are on their own page.
- Retiree and employer coverage first. State, school district and hospital retirees, and people still working at 65, have coverage that coordinates with Medicare in its own way. Whether an individual plan adds to it or cancels it comes before any comparison; NYSHIP retirees and Medicare while working past 65 cover the two most common cases.

Common questions
Short answers to what people ask before they call.
Still have a question? Call (518) 902-8822 or book a call.
My mailing address says Ravena 12143. Which plans can I get?
It depends on the county your house is in. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are filed by county, and the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file puts most of the 12143 ZIP area in Albany County but part of it in Greene County. The Village of Ravena and the Town of Coeymans are in Albany County, so their addresses see the Albany County list; a 12143 address on the Greene County side sees Greene County's list instead. I confirm the county from your street address before comparing anything.
Which hospital do Medicare Advantage plans in Ravena use?
Depending on your doctors you'll be admitted to Albany Medical Center or St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, or, if your doctors are with Columbia Memorial's practices in Greene or Columbia County, you may be admitted to Columbia Memorial in Hudson. St. Peter's has its own accepted-carrier list; Albany Medical Center and Columbia Memorial each have their own list on the Albany Med Health System's accepted-insurance page. Those lists name carriers, not plans, so I check each hospital and doctor by name in the plan's directory.
Is there help getting to doctor appointments from Ravena?
Yes. The Albany County Department for Aging's transportation provider is CDTA ACCESS, which coordinates rides for county residents 60 and over with no other way to get there, with dialysis and medical appointments first in line. Call 518-437-5161 at least 48 hours ahead; the county says a ride is not certain, so book early. When you rely on it, I check that a plan's in-network doctors are somewhere you can get to.
Where is free Medicare counselling for Ravena and Coeymans?
The Albany County Department for Aging at 420 Western Avenue in Albany (518-447-7198) runs HIICAP, New York's free and unbiased Medicare counselling; one-on-one sessions are booked at 518-447-7177. In the village, Senior Projects of Ravena at 9 Bruno Boulevard is one of the county's congregate dining sites (518-756-8593 to reserve). I enroll you in the plans I'm appointed with and stay your contact afterwards; HIICAP is the second opinion I recommend to anyone who wants one.
Do you meet Ravena and Coeymans clients in person?
Yes. My office is in Clifton Park, off Northway Exit 9, and I come to you at home in Ravena or anywhere in the Town of Coeymans when that's easier. A first conversation can be by phone or WhatsApp, and full reviews work well by video. No fee for Medicare plan help.
